Confined aquifer:
When the water present in the soil is confined because of the soil strata lying above and
below it, in that case, it is termed as confined aquifer.

Unconfined aquifer:
When the water present in the soil is confined by the atmospheric pressure acting on it, in
that case, it is termed as unconfined aquifer. It means that the water table acts as the
upper boundary in case of unconfined aquifer.

In this case, the water is found at a depth of 1.8 m, the screen is present at 6.0-8.0 m, and
the well terminates at 9.0-10.0 m. Hence, the water is present above the soil strata. It can
be concluded that it is an unconfined aquifer. In case of unconfined aquifer, the water
table is the upper boundary, hence, the water table is present at a depth of 1.8 m from the
surface.
