1. Not a Place to Eat Satay

Bandung Sate building most people will probably think that this
building is a satay stall or at least there are many satay sellers around
the building. However, this assumption is wrong.

So, the naming of Gedung Sate is based on the existence of an

ornamental structure similar to a skewer at the top of the building. so
the local people call this government center Gedung Sate.

2. Various Interpretations of Satay Ornaments

The satay ornaments on the roof of this building have different

interpretations. Some think that it is not satay, but six guava water. The
guava has a locality meaning as a symbol of the fertility of the Flower
City area.

The six ornaments became a nominal symbol of the money used

in building the building, which was six million guilders. Not only that, the
ornament is also considered similar to the symbol of a blooming lotus
flower.

3.Have a Secret Hall

The most mysterious part of Gedung Sate is the rumor that this
building holds a secret passage. So this majestic outward appearance is
rumored to have a mysterious space. He said, the section is in the form
of a secret passage that can connect directly to the West Java
Governor's Office.

However, this is being kept a secret at this time due to dark events
in the past. It is said that once there were prisoners who died in the area
causing a permanent closure.

5. Gurhaka Attack Monument

The monument is the final resting place for seven youths who died
while fighting against the Gurhaka army. This was reinforced by the
inscription on the monument: "In defending Gedung Sate against the
attack of the Gurhaka troops on December 3, 1945, seven youths died
and were buried by the enemy in the courtyard".

6. Earthquake Resistant Building

The construction of Gedung Sate was led by a Dutch architect, Ir.

J. Gerber. It was the architect who designed Gedung Sate using many
joints. Therefore, this building can withstand earthquakes up to 9 on the
Richter Scale. No wonder this building remains strong to this day.

7. Almost 100 Years Old

The laying of the first stone for Gedung Sate was carried out on
July 27, 1920. Meanwhile, its construction was only completed in
September 1924.
The robustness of Gedung Sate is inseparable from the materials
and construction techniques used. Among them, the walls of this
building consist of large pieces of stone. Not random stones, these
stones come from the rocky hills in eastern Bandung, Arcmanik and
Mount Manglayang.
8. Worked by 2,000 craftsmen
The construction of Gedung Sate apparently mobilized no less
than 2,000 workers. These workers include carpenters and stone
carvers. As many as 150 of them are Chinese masters of tombstone
carver and woodcarver. Meanwhile, masons, coolies, and servers mostly
come from the residents of Sekeloa, Coblong Dago, Gandok, and
Cibarengkok Villages.

9. Combination of Archipelago and European Architecture

This building was designed by combining the architectural
elements of the Archipelago and the European Renaissance. Indonesian
culture can be seen from the ornament that resembles the shape of a
terraced temple in the middle of the facade. The same thing can also be
seen from the part of the tower which is in the form of a multi-storey
temple.

Meanwhile, typical European architecture can be seen from the

pillars that stand along the main corridor. Ornaments in the form of a
fairly regular arch and patterned repeatedly also adopted the Italian
style. This includes large windows and a soaring roof.
