AIM OF THE SUBJECT


The aim of the subject is to equip the technician with the knowledge, skills and attitudes in engineering
mathematics.

OBJECTIVES:
After the completion of this course, students will be able to explain the concepts of the followings and

1.1 Evaluate Numbers and Real Numbers
1.2 Perform functions operations
1.3 Solve Equations
1.4 Solve Quadratic Equations using graphs
1.5 Solve Simultaneous Equation using graphs

2.0 TRIGONOMETRY
2.1 Perform revision of trigonometric functions.
2.2 Draw graphs of trigonometric functions and illustrate their applications.
2.3 Apply trigonometric identities and formulae to solve trigonometric equations
2.4 Perform solution of triangle.
2.5 Perform inverse trigonometric functions.

3.0 ANALYTIC GEOMETRY


3.1 Illustrate plane rectangular coordinates system.
3.2 Formulate the equation of a straight line.
3.3 Solve equation of conic section.
3.4 Interpret polar coordinates and graph of an equation in polar form.
4.0 COMPLEX NUMBER
4.1 Explain the concept of complex number.
4.2 Perform arithmetic operations of complex number.
4.3 Solve polar and exponential forms of complex number.

5.0 SERIES
5.1 Perform arithmetical and geometrical progression.
5.2 Employ binominal expression.
5.3 Perform Maclaurin and Taylor series.

6.0 VECTOR
6.1 Definition of vectors, the resultant and resolution of vectors.
6.2 State the rules of vector manipulation.
6.3 Illustrate the applications of vectors.

7.0 CALCULUS
7.1 Identify limit and continuity of a function.
7.2 Apply derivatives of simple algebraic and trigonometric functions.
7.3 Apply derivatives of sum, product, quotient of functions, function of a
function and implicit function.
7.4 Apply derivatives of the logarithmic, exponential and inverse functions.
7.5 Illustrate the applications of differentiation to general problems.
7.6 Calculate turning points, maxima and minima of a function.
7.7 Apply rules for finding integrals.
7.8 Apply integration of simple functions by use of standard integrals.
7.9 Illustrate the applications of definite integral to area and volume
7.10 Perform integration by substitution and by parts
