Group Activity
MATCH AND CONNECT
1. Teacher will group the class in to four
groups
2. Students will write the answer in 1/8
illustration board and you 15 seconds to
write the correct answer.
MATCH AND CONNECT
Peter joined the school fun run; he desired to win so he
didn’t mind if he was stepping on water wherein his
foot got soaked. Even if this made him uncomfortable
because his feet were very itchy, he didn’t do anything
but removed his socks that evening. He hung his pair
of socks at the back of the refrigerator to dry and
immediately went to sleep because he was so tired. The
following morning, his brother John saw the dried pair
of socks and used it thinking that it was clean.

GUIDE QUESTION:
6. Who is the next host?
Infectious Disease or the microorganism
which has the ability to cause disease

Reservoir or source of infection where the

microorganism can live and thrive. This may be a
person, an animal, any object in the general
environment, food or water.

Portal of Exit from the reservoir. This describes

the way the microorganism leaves the reservoir.
Mode of Transmission. This describes how
microorganisms are transmitted from one person or
place to another. This could be via someone’s hands,
on an object, through the air or bodily fluid contact.
Portal of Entry. This is how the infection enters
another individual. This could be landing on a
mucous membrane, being breathed in, entering
via a wound, or a tube such as a catheter.
Susceptible Host. This describes the person who is
vulnerable to infection.
The stages of infection describe
what happens once a susceptible
host has acquired a pathogen.
Incubation Stage
This is the onset of
contagious disease
the virus multiplies
until it affects the
body's defenses.
Incubation Stage
• This is the period when infection and the first signs and
symptoms associated with a disease appear. During this
stage, a sick person may actually spread the disease-
causing microorganisms without knowing because this is
a symptom-less stage where microbes can multiply inside
the body and also spread to other people.
• The length of the incubation period is dependent on the
kind of microorganism that invades the person and his/her
immune system as well.
Prodomal Stage
• During this stage, although a
person does not feel weak, sick, or
may not appear sick, the virus has
become stronger than the body's
defenses. At this stage, the illness
may be spread to other people.
• This is a short stage of disease
development where a person
begins to feel that they are getting
sick.
Illness Stage
• The illness has developed. In case of
flu, fever, aches and pains, and other
symptoms are present.
• This is the stage where a person
feels the typical signs and symptoms
associated with the disease. This is
also the stage where you can most
• The peak of illness
easily transmit a communicable intensity is known as
disease to another person. acme point
Decline Stage
This is the stage of disease development where
the immune system begins to bring microbial
replication under control which leads to the
lessening of the signs and symptoms associated
with the disease.
Convalences Stage
• This is the final stage of the
disease process where microbial
replication is fully stopped and
the person returns to the pre-
illness state.
• Although depending on the
disease, the person may not
proceed to the period of
convalescence and may die from
their disease or be disabled
