INTRODUCTION
Traffic count survey consists of the following two kinds of survey, traffic count on selected corridors and traffic count at selected
intersections and squares.
The main objectives of the traffic count survey are
To obtain the existing traffic volume on the major corridors.
To analyze the existing traffic conditions
To calibrate the existing origin and destination (OD) matrices
To obtain turning movement of the vehicles at major intersections and squares
Three locations were chosen by the lecturer for the traffic count survey assignment on designated major sections i.e. kacwamba, section
between the two major roundabouts in fort portal city and the section between the bridge and the fuel station at Mpaga market. And our
group B was assigned to that section between the two main roundabouts in fort portal tourism city
The survey interval used was basically 15 minutes from 3:05pm to 4:05pm and we managed to count four consecutive intervals and it
was carried out on a normal weekly day Saturday 4th March 2023.
Vehicle traffic count at the section was classified into the following vehicle types.
Passenger car and taxi
Public and private buses
Mini buses
Pickup and small truck
3 axles truck and heavy truck
2-wheeler (motorcycle)
2-axles truck
Bicycles
Tricycles
Pedestrians
1. Only count people/vehicles going and coming back to eliminate double counting.
2. Feel free to note any unsafe driving or pedestrian behaviors’, illegally parked vehicles and any other
concerns to active travel under observations
3. Be discreet, do not draw attention to yourself or chat with passersby and try not to interfere with
normal behaviors.

CONCLUSIONS
1. During the time of our survey, rain destructed traffic i.e. The number motorcycles and pedestrians reduced
as indicated in the second interval of our tally sheet.
