1. Definition of Recount Recount is a text which retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is either to inform or to entertain the audience. There is no complication among the participants and that differentiates from narrative. 2. Generic Structure of Recount There are three types of generic structure of recount text, as follow: a. Orientation, introducing the participants, place, and time. b. Events, describing series of event that happened in the past. c. Reorientation, it is optional. Stating personal comment of the writer to the story. 3. Language Feature of Recount There are five characteristics of language feature in recount. a. Introducing personal participant; I, my group, etc. b. Using chronological connection; then, first, etc. c. Using linking verb; was, were, saw, heard, etc. d. Using action verb; look, go, change, etc. e. Using simple past tense. 4 The example of the text, as follows. Watching Football Match Orientation One day, my brother and I went to the football field to see an inter-village match. The match was between Madegondo FC Versus Daleman FC. Madegondo FC wore red jersey and Daleman FC wore green jersey. We got there at three o’clock in the afternoon. The match started at a half past three o’clock. Event 1 The play started. As a Madegondo citizen, I gave my best to support Madegondo FC. We shouted and screamed all the times, singing chants and songs. Madegondo FC started slow. They tended to wait for a counter attack. In contrary, Daleman FC attacked like bees. They played total football. They attacked and pressed very hard and Madegondo FC defended valiantly. However, the result in the first half was still 0-0. Event 2 The match continued at the second half. Daleman FC attacked thorugh the left flank. Their winger, Sartono, had a wonderful speed. He gave a pass to Anwar, their striker. Anwar passed it back to Sartono. However, Sartono lost his focus a moment. The ball was taken by Ihsan, our full back. Ihsan gave a long ball straight to Mujiono, our striker. He controlled the ball and took the ball to the right side. He shot the ball from the distance. It went in! We cheered instantly. I could hear the roarng scream through the stadium. Madegindo FC scored a goal in 65 minute. Reorientation Madegondo FC were back to their defending position. Daleman FC swarmed Madegondo FC’s defending line. However, they could not score a single goal. Madegondo’s four defenders were so discipline. In the end, the score was 1-0 for Madegondo FC. We went home very happy.
