7. A rotating object with initial angular velocity of 12 rad s-1increases its rotational speed
to 20 rad s-1in 2 s. during this time, calculate its
a) angular acceleration, assumed constant
b) angular displacement
c) number of revolutions
(4 rad/s2, 32 rad, 5.09 rev)

8. A motorcycle has tires with a diameter of 44.0 cm. Cruising down the highway, they
are rotating at 1150 rpm (revolutions per minute).
a) What is the angular velocity in radians per second?
b) What is the tangential velocity of the edges of the tires (and hence the linear
velocity of the motorcycle) in m/s?
(120.43 rad/s, 26.49 rad/s)
9. A space station ring of radius 500 m spins twice in 12 minutes.
a) Find its angular velocity (in rads/s).
b) Find the linear (tangential) velocity (in m/s) of a point on the outer edge of the ring.
(0.017 rad/s, 8.5 m/s)
10. An object is moving round a circle of radius 0.6 m at the rate of two revolutions per
second. Calculate:
a) angular velocity in rad s-1
b) linear velocity
c) linear acceleration
(12.57 rad/s, 7.54 m/s, 94.75 m/s2)
11. Diana Prince starts rotating with an angular velocity of −5 rad/s, where the negative sign
indicates a clockwise rotation, to transform into Wonder Woman. After 5 seconds she
has completed the transformation and her angular velocity is −2 rad/s.
a) Find Wonder Woman’s angular acceleration (in rad/s2).
b) Find the tangential acceleration and centripetal acceleration (in m/s2) of her
indestructible bracelets (at ω = −2 rad/s) if they are 0.8 m away from her body
when she is spinning.
(0.6 rad/s2, 0.48 m/s2, 3.2 m/s2)

12. A wheel rotates from 0.56 rad s-1 to 2.57 rad s-1 in 6 s with constant angular
acceleration. Find its angular acceleration in rad s-2.
(0.335 rad/s2)

13. The bicycles tire is accelerated equally from rest to a speed of 20.0 rpm in 5.00 min.
Find
a) the angular acceleration (in rad/s2)
b) the angular displacement that the wheel undergoes during that time (in rad).
(6.97x103 rad/s2, 627.3 rad)

14. Express the angular displacement in terms of its translational physical quantity

15. The tires of a bicycle have a diameter of 50.0 cm. As they they travel along the road,
their wheels are turning at 1200 revolutions per minute. Calculate the tangential
velocity of the edges of the tires in ms-1
(31.425 ms-1)

1.2 TORQUE

16. You spin a bicycle wheel (diameter of 0.85 m, mass of 4.5 kg), applying a force of 24
N tangentially. What is the torque on the wheel?
(10.2 Nm)
17. A rope is wrapped around a solid cylindrical drum as in Figure 2. The drum has a
fixed frictionless axle. The mass of the drum is 125 kg and it has a radius of R = 50.0
cm. The other end of the rope is tied to a block, M = 10.0 kg.
a) What is the angular acceleration of the drum? What is the linear acceleration
of the block?
b) What is the tension in the rope? Assume that the rope does not slip.
