Intro-
● In team games like soccer, teamwork is required to obtain the common goal for the team
which is to score and win; but this will not be able to happen 1 versus 11.
● Passing will be required to move the ball against defenses looking to take possession of
the ball.
● There are many different types of passes in soccer, but for our sake we are going to focus
on the inside of the foot pass and the outside of the foot pass.
When passing a soccer ball today there are a few things we all need to keep flowing in our
mind:
● STEP
● CONTACT
● FOLLOW THROUGH
I will then ask the students if any could demonstrate the cues while the other students
called out the cues in order
Inside foot short passing setup:
- Arrows from the cone indicate where the students will
begin and return too, and the arrows indicate where the
students will go.
- The arrows from the ball indicate where the ball will be
rolled to during the reps.
- This drill will work on our passing using the inside of our foot pass while utilizing the
cues given to complete the drill with proper form.
- To begin, one student will start with the ball where the circle is in regards to the cones
and one student will begin at the far cone from the ball.
- Prior to the first round to ensure understanding, they will move to the cones and
go throught he motion of receiving and distributing a short pass back at each
cone and going back to the starting cone.
- The student at the cone will jog to one of the cones chosen by the ball distributor, they
then receive a pass with a touch then pass the ball back using the instep of the foot.
Students will alternate sides 30 seconds for the first round or two to make sure all have a
firm understanding of what is going on.
- On the final round students will be given 90 seconds to complete as many reps of the
drill (one rep= student completing short pass with proper form at both cones and
returning back to the start cone)
- Round 1- 50% effort/ 2 minute /2 touches/ alternate sides
- Round 2- 50% effort/ 2:30 minute/ 1 touch/alternate sides
- Round 3- 75 % effort/ 3 minutes /2 touches/ alternate sides
- Round 4- 100% (fast as you feel comfortable)/ 3 minutes/ students can decide
how many touches/alternate sides
- Give students a breather after the little cardio they were doing 10 minutes
Inside foot short passing setup (individual):
- Arrows from the cone indicate where the
students will begin and return too, and the
arrows indicate where the students will go.
- Rectangle represents the wall the student is
passing against
- This drill will work on our passing using the inside of our foot pass while utilizing the
cues given to complete the drill with proper form.
- To begin, the student will start with the ball at the cone farthest from the wall
- Prior to the first round to ensure understanding, they will move to the cones and
go throught he motion of dribbling to the cone one one side and do a short pass
towards the wall, receive it back then dribble back to the starting cone and do the
same thing on the other side.
- The student at the cone will go at their own pace to the cone they chose to start the drill
and alternate each time they go back to the starting cone.
- On the final round students will be given 90 seconds to complete as many reps of the
drill (one rep= student completing short pass with proper form at both cones and
returning back to the start cone)
- Round 1- 50% effort/ 2 minutes /2 touches/ alternate sides
- Round 2- 50% effort/ 2:30 minutes / 1 touches/alternate sides
- Round 3- 75 % effort/ 3 minutes /2 touch/ alternate sides
- Round 4- 100% (fast as you feel comfortable)/ 3 minutes/ students can decide
how many touches/alternate sides
Outside of foot passing set up (group of students):
- Before starting the drill students will be told this is just a modified technique of the
inside the foot pass. We will just need to rotate the foot the opposite way
(adduct the foot) so the outside is making contact with the ball then follow through
- This drill's purpose is to help develop our touch passes with the outside of our foot.
- To begin the drill, one student will start with the ball on one side of the triangle and they
will dribble the ball towards the center cone and perform a touch pass with the outside
part of the foot.
- First round will be all with right foot/ 3 minutes
- Second round will be all left foot/ 3 minutes
- Third round will be a student's choice or alternating each time/ 4 minutes
