ENGLISH 3

QUARTER 3
Week 3 April 5-9, 2021

Subject Matter: Hyponyms MELCS: EN3V-IIIi-j-13.7

Lesson Objectives:

At the end of the lesson the learners should be able to;

a. Understand what hyponyms;


b. Read words that are hyponyms;
c. Sight examples of hyponyms.
d. Increase of vocabulary through hyponyms.

Subject Integrations:

Science the classification of animals.

Araling Panlipunan the province of Region I and towns under Pangasinan

Values Integration: Every person, animals or things has its own characteristic we
should respect each individuals.

Materials:

Power point presentations

Pictures (doll, toy car, flower, buildings, etc)

Introduction:

Ask the learners to name the following picture being show in the slides.

1. Rose 5. Doll
2. Sampaguita 6. Toy car
3. Rosal 7. Toy truck
4. Gumamela 8. Legos

Development of the Lesson

In what category do the rose, sampaguita, rosal and gumamela belongs?

They are all FLOWERS! Very Good!

And today’s lesson is about Hyponyms.

Do you know what is hyponyms?

Modeling

Categorizing words is a good strategy in increasing your vocabulary. Words may be


classified according on their specific groups. These classifications will help you
understand the common characteristics of a certain thing.

Let us study the examples.

goat animals cat

pig

Just like in our science lesson we classify animals according to where they live, what
they eat and their body cover.

And there are also things that we can find in the kitchen than can be classified like
spoon, fork, plates, and glass.

Remember words may be classified or group based on the similarities of their
characteristics. The groupings or categorization of these words is known as hyponyms.
