Oriented Towards
Impending Death
HOW DOES Nothing lasts forever. The cycle of
THE REALITY being born, growing up and growing
old and dying is a reality. We have
OF DEATH limited time here on earth and
DEFINE OUR whether we like it or not, we are
bound to die. DEATH is real. It is
LIVES? part of our being.
Is commonly understood as the end of
bodily functions . IT REFERS TO THE
PLEASURABLE GOOD
Is good so long as it provides some form of
pleasure, though it does not have to be physical.
Practical Knowledege
means that one does not
only know the rules of right PRACTICAL
living, but ones lives them.
Hence, for Socrates, true KNOWLEDGE
knowledge means wisdom,
which is turn, means
,virtue..
THE MYSTERY OF SUFFERING?
WHY PAIN? WHY SUFFERING? WE ALL EXPERIENCE THIS
STATE OF THE HUMAN CONDITION. HOW CAN WE RECONCILE
THE EXISTENCE OF A GOD WHO IS ALL GOOD AND ALL
POWERFUL WITH THE FACT THAT SUFFERING AND EVIL ARE
REAL?
CHURCH VIEWS SUFFERING AS A MYSTERY. THE
SCRIPTURES SHED MUCH LIGHT ON THE SUBJECT
CHRIST"S LIFE,PASSION, AND DEATH PROVIDE EVEN MORE
MEANING BEHIND THE MYSTERY OF SUFFERING.
is generally viewed as a state of feeling
discomfort or pain. It can come in the form
of physical suffering when one experiences
bodily pain, example, injury or it may be a
mental suffering when it involves our
Suffering minds and emotions, such as depression or
loneliness. Humans as we are, we normally
experience pain and we often view it as
necessary to help us grow and become a
strong person and find the deepest
meaning of our lives.
In life, we experience both happiness
and suffering. Whatever experiences
we have, let us make it sure that it
helps us lived the life worth
remembering; that we could be a
better version of ourselves. Life is a
gift, live it.
Weltschmerz
Physical Suffering refers to man’s realization that the world
refers to physical sensations such as can never live up to the ideal, “perfect world”
discomfort, hunger, stress, and pain.. resulting to the feelings of sadness or
apathy.
Grief
is the natural reaction to
death and dying
FIVE STAGES OF GRIEF by
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Stage 1: DENIAL
THE DYING PERSON INITIALLY EXPRESSES DISBELIEF
REGARDING HIS OR HER SITUATION; THOSE WHO HEAR OF THE
DEATH OF A LOVED ONE OFTEN REFUSE TO BELIEVE THE NEWS
AT FIRST.
Stage 2: ANGER
THE PERSON EXPRESSES FRUSTRATION WITH HIS OR HER SITUATION
(R. ABELLA, 2016).
Stage 3: BARGAINING
THE DYING PERSON OFTEN VOICES HIS OR HER WISH THAT HIS OR
HER LIFE BE PROLONGED, AND THAT HE OR SHE IS WILLING TO
DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO SURVIVE.
Stage 4: DEPRESSION
THE DYING PERSONEXPERIENCES INTENSE SADNESS OR
EXHIBITS DISINTEREST IN LIFE AND ITS NORMAL ROUTINES.( R
ABELLA 2016)
Stage 5 : ACCEPTANCE
THIS IS THE LAST EMOTIONALSTAGE OF GRIEF WHEN THE
PERSON FINALLY COMES TO TERMS WITH HIS OR HER IMPENDING
DEATH AND HAS EMBRACED HIS OR HER MORTALITY
TWO MAJOR PHILOSOPHICAL
VIEWS REGARDING HUMA
SUFFERING
1. Considrs suffering as an
undesirable human condition,
and that humans naturally seek 3. Practical knowledge means that
pleasure and avoid pain. one does not only know the rules of
right living, but ones lives them.
Hence, for Socrates, true knowledge
2. Suffering is nessesary to human
means wisdom, which in turn, means
existence. Suffering is essential
virtue.
because it defines human existence
( R Abella 2016)
Everything that exists in this universe
comes to an end and we humans are not
exempted. The acceptance of being a
temporary individual in this world gives us
a clearer vision on how to live life to the
fullest and understand the meaning of
our existence. We have the freedom to
choose a weel lived life; doing good and
doing what is right.
