 Promotion serves as encouragement and inspiration to other employees to exert their
maximum effort.
 Demotion is a reassignment of an employee to a lower job involving fewer skills and
responsibilities. It may not involve a reduction in pay but a reduction in status or
privileges.
 Employee Separation/Resignation is the termination of employment as a result of
resignation, layoff, or discharge. Voluntary separation is better known as resignation
or quit.
 Resignation or quit is the termination of employment, generally initiated by the
employee or employee initiative.
