What is the balanced chemical equation?

From the table, plot a graph of -log(time) vs. log[IO3-]
Attach your graph. What is the equation for the trendline of your graph?

Log Plot
-log(time) 0.00
-2.50 -2.00 -1.50 -1.00 -0.50 0.00
-0.50

y = 1.0021x - 0.239 -1.00

-3.00

Based on the slope, what is the reaction order with respect to the Iodate?
The reaction order is 1.

Why would the flasks used in the reactions need to be dry? How would having a clean,
but still wet, flask affect the reactions?
The flasks used in the reactions need to be dry because even small changes in
concentration can have a big effect on the rate. A wet flask would decrease the
concentration of ions and lead to a longer reaction time.

Based on your determined reaction order, if you were to double the concentration of
Iodate Ion, how would this affect the reaction time?
The reaction time would double.
Using the equation for your trendline, what would the concentration of Iodate ion be,
if the reaction time is 1 minutes 25 seconds? Show your work.
x = -log(time)
y = log[IO3-]
1 min 25s = 85s
-log(85) = -1.93
Y = 1.0021x – 0.239 = 1.0021 (-1.93) – 0.239 = -2.17 M
