1 Introduction
1.1 Purpose
The purpose of the document is to provide documentation on installation and usage of EEI
for Forge application.

1.2 Scope
This document specifies the usage of the EEI for Forge graphical user interface (GUI) tool
running on a computer and connected to Aircraft via RS422 via USB-RS-422 converter
hardware.

1.3 About EEI for Forge


EEI for Forge is a ground-based maintainer tool that is used for downloading
HTF7000/TFE731 engine faults, maintenance, performance/trending data for
troubleshooting and maintenance of those engines. Tool supports both on windows 10 and
Linux platforms.
It supports the following features:

▪ Download
▪ MC Monitor
▪ Realtime
▪ Download Function
▪ Initialize
▪ HHT
▪ Dark/Light Theme

1.4 System Description


The EEI for Forge is a software program that will allow the user to interface with the aircraft engine’s
Electronic Control Units (ECUs). On the Personal Computer (PC) platform with the proper
connection cables and an Edgeport or a Patton Converter and IOGear Converter, EEI for Forge
software will interface with the ECUs in the following environments.

▪ On the Aircraft
▪ Test Cell - ECUs attached to a standalone engine
▪ Test Bench – ECUs detached from engines- ECUs attached to a standalone engine

2 System Requirements
Microsoft Windows 10 and Ubuntu desktop 20 (LTS)
Software OperatingSystem.

Hardware • PC with min 4GB RAM or higher

• 1 or more USB-2/3 ports

• Data storage media: USB Flash Drive

• Printer port (Optional)

• USB to RS-422 converters like Digi Edgeport or a

4.1 Software Installation / Setup


3.1.1 Installation on Windows®
Following are the steps to install the EEI for Forge application on Windows.

▪ Double click on the Setup.exe to start the installation.

▪ Click on the ‘Next’ button to proceed with the installation.

▪ Note: By default, the installation directory is ‘C:\Honeywell\EEI_For_Forge’. On


clicking ‘Change’ button ‘Change Current Destination Folder dialog appears, and the
user can change the installation directory location. However, it is recommended that it
is better to keep the default installation directory as the target.

▪ Users have option to install the application for All USERS and LOGGED IN USER.

▪ Click the Install button to proceed with the installation.

Note: User can Cancel the installation by clicking the Cancel button

▪ On successful installation the below dialog will appear. Click ‘Finish’ button to close
the dialog.

▪ View the Readme File detailing the version of EEI for Forge.

Note: If the application is already installed, then the installer overwrites the
existing installation. The installer won't allow the user to re-install the application
in a separate location. For installing the application in different location, the user
must un-install the existing application.

4.2 Uninstalling application


3.1.1 Uninstallation on Windows®
Following are the steps to uninstall the EEI for Forge application on Windows.

▪ Go to “Uninstall and Change Program” in Control Panel.

▪ Or also user can search EEI for Forge in startup and click on Uninstall

▪ Select EEI for Forge and click Uninstall.

▪ Click on Yes to begin the uninstallation of the application.

4.3 User Interface


The application requires the ECUs to be connected to the PC before it is started. If no
ECUs are connected, error message shown below will be displayed.

3.3.1 Launch Screen


Once the user double clicks on EEI For Forge Icon, following launch screen will appear. EEI
will start polling each ECUs/DEECs that are connected to the Edgeport box.

Note: For Installation and configuration of Edgeport Device, Refer document SE-01-1250
Section Appendix D.

Once the application detects COM ports, it proceeds with application initialization and the
application features will be made available to the user.

At any time, a single instance of application can be opened. If the user tries to open the application,
when it is already running below shown error message will be displayed.

3.3.2 Download folder


Download folder is created inside that tail number-based folder created (For ECFR files) and
RTDL folder for RTDL files.

3.3.3 Pin/Unpin status logger


On the bottom side of application user see there is a Status logger which keeps the user
activity, when user perform any operation like download, abort etc.

In the Status logger bar in right side an upside arrow is there to unpin/pin the logger.

5 Download
After opening the EEI for Forge program and logging in, the user will see the EEI main
screen. From this main screen there is menu bar to access the functions in EEI.

5.1 About Download


Download Page displays the below properties of the connected Engine(s)
i. Model Number
ii. Part Number
iii. Serial Number

Along with the Engine Properties, ECU Properties are also displayed
i. COM Port
ii. Part Number
iii. Serial Number
iv. Software Version

The high level (top bar) menu bar also can move to side bar, by clicking on left top corner
user need to drag it to left downside, also moves back to high level menu bar.

4.1.1 Download ECFR data


The Download ECFR Data is executed by clicking on Download button on the Download tab.
The download functionality will provide user, the capability to transfer Engine Condition
Fault Reporting (ECFR) data from the ECU to the computer.

All 4 ECUs must be connected for the download functionality to be enabled. After clicking on
the Download button, a pop-up will be displayed as shown below. User get the path where
the data will be downloaded. When USB drive is connected, user will a have an option of
taking the backup of the downloaded ECFR data Aircraft tail number is mandatory to be
entered by user. Local Date & Time along with the Time Zone is also recorded while
downloading. Users need to validate the time and date and proceed to download.

When the download is in progress, MC Monitor, Initialize and Real time tab are disabled.
The download progress in % is displayed as well.

Once download is successfully completed, a dialog box will appear to open the downloaded
file option to upload data to forge website (currently only Forge website will open)

By clicking on Click here option user can view the downloaded files, the ECFR files will be in
tar.gz format user needs to do unzip to view the raw files.

4.1.2 Abort Download


The user has the option to abort the download of ECFR Data when the Download is in
Progress.

When the Abort button is clicked, a warning pop-up appears for confirmation of cancellation
of ECFR download. After Abort of ECFR Download is completed, the user gets a successful
message.

After clicking on Yes button, below error message is displayed.

4.1.3 Clear ECFR


When downloading ECFR file user opt for clear. After the ECFR file is downloaded
successfully to the local hard drive or backup, then clear ECFR will happen.

Note: Except Engine Statistics, ECU Statistics, Incident A and Incident B, all the data
blocks will be cleared from ECU.

A warning text will be shown if user wants to clear ECU data and a check box is selected
A gif of clearing data will appear until the clearing is completed.

Clearing is completed then a pop-up message will come.

6 MC Monitor
Clicking on the MC Monitor tab or button opens maintenance data. The application will read the
ECFR & Real Time maintenance conditions.

6.1 Selecting Engine and ECU Channels


In the MC Monitor screen, the user must select the Engine Channel and ECU Channel. Based on the
selection of Engine and the ECU, a table will be displayed as shown in below figure.
i. Aircraft Tail Number
ii. Engine Serial Number
iii. ECU Serial Number
iv. Channel in Control
v. Engine Position

EEI Maintenance Conditions Page will read the ECFR and Real Time Maintenance
Conditions in the corresponding tabs. There are 2 parts to the screen.
i. ECFR Maintenance Conditions.
ii. Real Time Maintenance Conditions.

The Refresh button will always be active. When the button is selected it will read ECFR and
Real Time maintenance conditions from all the user selected ECU channels Currently in
maintenance mode.
When User click on Refresh the gif will comes when data is loading, and message will come
on status logger.

The Maintenance Reset button will always be active. When the button is selected, it will
perform a maintenance reset. It will then read ECFR and Real Time maintenance conditions
from all the user selected ECU channels.
The Print Report button will be active if no operation is performed by user like Reset or
Refresh and when click on Print Report button to save file name will be asked and the pdf file
of maintenance condition will be saved, a dialog box with file name appear user able to view
file.

6.2 ECFR Maintenance Conditions


When the Engine and the ECU Channel is selected, ECFR Maintenance Condition screen
will open as shown in Figure. If Engines and ECU Channels are not connected, they will be in
disabled state.
This tab allows the user to view the Maintenance Condition Data, the Maintenance Reset
Data and the Aircraft Performance Data.

The table in this tab displays below parameters.


i. Code - Maintenance Condition ID by number
ii. Flights - Number of flights
iii. Occurrences - Number of occurrences within of that MC ID within the data
block
iv. Status - MC Status as Current, Suspended, or History
v. Last Date - Date of last occurrence
vi. Last Time - Time of last occurrence
vii. Description - Description of that MC ID.

6.3 Real Time Maintenance Conditions


Based on selection of Engine and ECU Channel, Real Time Maintenance Conditions will be
displayed as shown in Figure.
When user first time click on Real Time MC it will shows the gif when loading the data.

i. Code - Maintenance Condition ID by number
ii. Description - Description of that Maintenance Condition ID

6.4 Print Report


When click on Print Report button it will ask user to save file & name will be asked and the
pdf file of maintenance condition will be saved, a dialog box with file name appear user able
to view file.

A dialog box with file name appear and user can click on file name link to open report pdf.

When click on the file name link pdf will open.

7 Real Time
The EEI Realtime Function displays and saves Realtime variables ECFR in ECU or plays back ECFR
file containing Realtime data. The Realtime Function is intended to give the user the ability to view
and record engine parameters under operational conditions.

7.1 Selecting Engine


The Record Data Screen monitors or records the selected engine parameters under operating
conditions.

Below error message is displayed if user config file is not added

The screen is divided into 3 group as:


i. Engine Selection – The user needs to select the Engine for which parameters will be
recorded.
ii. Parameters Selection – The user needs to select the list of User Configured and
Base RTDL Parameter

iii. Monitoring of Parameters. – RTDL Parameters need to be moved to the display


section where their values would be displayed. The User has the option to add new
and remove Parameters from the panel.

Recording of RTDL Parameters starts when the user selects some parameters and clicks on
Start Recording Button. User can select up to 15 parameters at max. If user tries to select
more than 15 parameters, below shown error message will be displayed.

7.2 RTDL dialog for Aircraft Tail number


When user clicks on Start recording button a dialog box opens that ask user to enter aircraft
tail number. If the user has provided the tail number in that session during download, by
default that tail number willbe shown.

User can update the tail number and click OK if tail number update is required. If user
Select SKIP then tail number will not be updated in RTDL filename.

After clicked on Stop Recording a dialog box with open folder option to open RTDL
downloaded files and link of forge website.

7.3 HHT Function


The HHT Function is executed by clicking on the Open HHT in Real time window.

6.3.1 About HHT function


The EEI HHT Function allows the user to communicate with an ECU or a DEEC using HHT
commands. Only one ECU or DEEC can be communicated with during the HHT function.

6.3.2 Getting Started with HHT


An aircraft must be selected before communicating with the ECU or DEEC. Connected
ECU(s) will come in the Engine & Channel name. Enter Command field for user to enter the
command.

If any COM port is connected, then only we got the active ECU(s) list.

The user must select a channel port by clicking <<PULL DOWN AND SELECT A CHANNEL>>
drop down list. The HHT function will then check the communication with the ECU or DEEC
and display the status on the HHT Screen.

6.3.2.1 HHT AS907 Commands


A maximum of 3 parameters can be entered at the > prompt while communicating with an
AS907 engine. The syntax for the command is: <signature_word> <variable_name or
address> <datatype>

>> VER

>> SHV parameter

Where the parameter is a variable from the AS907 symbol table.


Example: SHV ALT

>> SHW <parameter address>

8 Initialize
The Initialize Function is executed by clicking ‘Initialize’ Button in the EEI tool. The EEI Initialize
Functions allow the user to initializing the Engine with new data. This new data includes Engine
Model Number, Engine Part Number and/or Engine Serial Number. The Connected ECU Channel is
also displayed adjacent to the new Data.

EEI Initialize function is disabled for the Engine(s) which are not connected.

The user can verify that if Engine Serial Number, the Engine Part Number and the Engine
Model Number are correct and update if necessary.
Engine Model Number can be selected from the list of different models which are available
from the drop-down. The Engine Part Number should be 7 or 8 numeric characters followed
by “-”, followed by a single numeric character. The Engine Serial Number should be a 6-digit
number.

If user enter invalid detail, then error in text field will come. When invalid serial no.

When user enter the model number and there is mismatch model number.

Validation error message.

When user enter the details then only initialize and Reset button will be active. When user
enter the details and user want to revert the changes then user can click on Reset button.

9 Loopback
When click on loopback icon on top bar right side, User will have a provision to perform loop
back test.

9.1 Loopback Refresh


When user change ECU(s)/DEEC(s)/Engine(s) position or user connect/disconnect any
ECU that time user needs to do Refresh so changes will appear.

When click on Refresh it takes time to show the changes, a gif will be shown to user when
loopback refresh is in progress.

10 Theme
Dark theme is a new look for ‘EEI for Forge’ that replaces its usual white color scheme with
shades of black and gray. Applications with darker interfaces use much less power than
their bright, white counterparts. User will get the same theme when close the last usage.

10.1 Switching to Dark Theme


The user needs to select the theme button at the top-right of the application.

10.2 Switching to Light Theme

To switch back to light theme, the user needs to select the theme button at the top-right ofthe
application adjacent to the loopback Button.

11 Foreground Logs
For making the application more interactive with the user, EEI for Forge Application has foreground
log at the bottom of the screen. The foreground logs inform the user about the active com port, and
the processes which are running during the click of button or any activity which is happening in the
application.

11 Help drop-down menu


The Help drop-down menu contains EDV, LMM, Drivers and User’s Manual as shown in below figure

Clicking on the User’s Manual menu item selects the EEI User’s Manual Function. This will
open the User’s Manual in a PDF format in a separate window (this is the file that is currently
being read).

12 About
Clicking on the About menu item selects the About EEI Function. This will open the About
EEI for Forge window as shown in Figure.

The About EEI window displays the EEI Build Version and the Build Data. Click on the close
option to return to the Main Menu.
