DIS 102: Fundamentals of Information Systems

Term Project for Feb 2023- May 2023

To be carried out by 8-10 persons per group for the Module I group while for the Module
II group 5-6 persons per group.

Assignment 1: Microsoft Word

You will create a Microsoft Word document by following these directions:

1. Type your first name at the top of the document. The font should be Algerian, size 36 pt.
2. Double underline, bold and centre your name.
3. Press enter key and insert two-page columns below your name.
4. Type this title in the first column: All about Me. The font should be Bookman Old Style,
Size 18 pt., Bold, and Italics.
5. Type a small paragraph about yourself. The font should be Times New Roman, size 16 pt.
Include how long you have been at the University, your favourite food, and three things you
like to do when you are out of school. Make a bulleted list of names of the colleagues you
schooled with.
6. Insert an education-based picture of your own choice at the bottom of the first column.
7. Insert column break below the picture i.e. this should move your cursor to the beginning of
column two.
8. Type this title at the beginning of the second column: Technology Growth.
9. The font should be Bookman Old Style, Size 18 pt., Bold, and Italics.
10. Create a numbered list of 10 types of technological gadgets/equipment you know. The font
should be Monotype Corsiva, size 16 pt.
11. Run the spell check and format your work to make it cool.
12. Hand in the document for marking.
Assignment 2: Excel

1. Merge and centre the title


2. Calculate the averages of each student and each exam
3. Compute the mean of each exam
4. Work out the totals of each exam done
5. Using IF function formula, assign letter grades to each student average marks (i.e. >80 =
A, 70 – 79 = B, 60 – 69 = C, 50 – 59 = D and <49 = F). You will need to add another row
where you will enter your grades. (Show the excel formulae used at the bottom of your
table.
Assignment 3: MS Access
Using an institution of your choice:

1. Create a database using MS Access and name it “Academic Performance”.

2. Create at least two tables of related records in the database of students’ performance.

3. Create three different queries from the tables you created (Display the title and/or

statement used in each of your query on top of every query).

4. Generate a report from the database to reflect the outcomes of all your queries.

5. Customize your work to make it more appealing and presentable.

6. Print your tables, queries and reports and hand in as a hard copy.

Submission deadline is 6th May 2023
Non-original work will count as plagiarism and will automatically be disqualified.

All group members’ names and reg. numbers should be typed on the cover page in ascending
order, and each member should sign after their name. A checklist on the cover page will ensure
you have done everything in both assignments.
