     Akshepaka is not a disease. It is a symptom.


     A/C to Acharya Charak-
     मु हुराक्षिपति क्रुद्धो गात्राण्याक्षेपकोऽनिलः ।
    पाणिपादं च सशोष्यं सिराः सस्नायु कण्ड़राः ।। (Cha.Chi-28/50)
    The provoked vata contracts vessels, tendons, ligaments of the hands and feet cause episodic
    contraction in different parts of the body.
     A/C to Acharya Sushruta -
    यदा तु धमनी: सर्वा: कुपितोऽभ्येति मारुतः।।

    तदाक्षिपत्याशु मुहुर्मुहर्देहं मुहुश्चरः । मुहुर्मुहुस्तदाक्षेपादाक्षेपक इति स्मत


    ृ ः।।

    It is defined as pravesha of prakupita vata in dhamanis causes ankuchana prasharana called as

    akshepaka.

     Clinically seizures, convulsion and fits are used as synonyms.


     It is defined as an abnormal electrical discharge in motor neuron area of brain caused abnormal
    uncontrolled tonic clonic movement of limbs.

    Etiology/Causes -
    At birth- Birth asphyxia, Brain Neonatal period- Graha rogas Infant period - Meningitis,
    ( Pitrugraha, Skandapasmara, Tubercular meningitis, Tetanus
    trauma, Meconium aspiration, Balagraha) infection, Encephalitis, Enteric
    Nabhinalakartajanyaupadrava Udarakrumi fever, Cerebral malaria, Epilepsy,
    Ulvaka roga Round worm infection, Cerebral
    Balapasmara palsy, DPT vaccine
    Margavarana by pitta -
    kernicterus, septicemia

    Other causes - Febrile convulsion (100-106°F), If mother taking opium during pregnancy etc.

    Biochemical factors- Hypocalcaemia, Hypoglycemia, Pyridoxine (deficiency of vit B6)

    Vata dosha prakopa

    Sthanasamaraya of prakupita vata at sharirastha dhamanis

    Repatedly Ankuchana of dhamanis

    Types - Pitta yukta Vataja ( Sadhya)

    Chikitsa/Treatment -

    Vata shamana chikitsa

     Medicines -
    1. Br.Vatachintamani rasa - In akshepak it is best with mamsadi kwatha anupana.
    2. Vatakulantaka rasa -
    3. Kalyanaka ghrita
    4. Brahmi ghrita - Ingredients- Brahmi, Bacha, Kutha, Sankhapuspi

    Dose - 7.5gm × BD in empty stomach

    Indication- Apasmara, Akshepaka, Unmada, Swarabhanga

    5. Apatanrakari vati - Ingredients- Hingu, Kapura, S.Bhanga beeja, Tagara, Jatamansi

    Dose - 1-2tab × BD with Luke warm water ×AF

    Indication- Covulsive disorders, Epileptic seizures

    Ref - Ayurveda sarasangraha

    6. Brahmi vati - Dose - 1-2tab × BD × AF ( Best with mamsadi kwatha)

    Ref - Sidha yoga

    7. Mamsadi kwatha

    8.Saraswatarista -Acts as- Ojabardhaka, Hridya rasayan, Medha brudhi


    Dose - 7.5ml with equal amount of water × BD × AF

    Ref - B.R

    9. Abhyanga with - Himasagar taila - Used in various neuromuscular condition and vata diseases.

    Excellent for pain relief and burning sensation relief.

    Ref - B.R (vatavyadhi rogadhikara)

    Himanshu taila - Used in shirarogas and acts as coolant property.

    Mahanarayan taila -Best in vata disorders

    10. Shirodhara with - Brahmi taila, Himasagar taila, Himanshu taila

    11. Siropichu with - Mahachaitasa ghrita, Panchagavya ghrita

    12. Nasya with - Panchagavya ghrita
