CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
ABSTRACT

The main of our project is to develop a model of chain-link fence. The wires run

vertically and are bent into a zigzag pattern so that each "zig" hooks with the wire immediately
on one side and each "zag" with the wire immediately on the other. This forms the
characteristic diamond pattern seen in this type of fence.
INTRODUCTION

A fence is a arrangement that encircles a space, typically exterior, and is usually created
from posts that are connected by panels, wire, railings or mesh. A fence varies from a wall is not
having a rock-solid foundation along its entire span. A chain-link fences usually made from
galvanized steel wire. The manufacturing of chain-link fencing is called weaving. A metal wire
frequently galvanized to reduce corrosion, is pulled along a rotating long and flat blade, thus
making a somewhat flattened spiral. The spiral continuously rotate passing the blade and winds it
through the previous spiral that is part of the produced fence. When the spiral reaches the distant
end of the fence, the spiral is cut near the blade. Then the spiral is pressed flat and the whole
fence is moved up and ready for the next cycle. The end of each second spiral joins the end of
each first spiral. The machine clamps both ends and gives them a few twists. This makes the
links permanent.
When the AC motor is powered it rotates thus rotating the rectangular rod attached to its
shaft. Now this rectangular rod is fixed to rotate inside a hollow round tube. Milling operation is
performed on this tube to achieve a spiral shaped cutout on this hollow tube. So Now as the
rectangular rod rotates inside this hollow tube. We now take the wire end from the bobbin and
hook it on the inside rod through the hollow tube slot. We now turn on the machine. As the
motor runs, the rod turns inside the hollow tube. As the hollow tube is cutout in a spiral shape,
the wire moves with the rod spiraling around it and moving outwards. So now we get a zig zag
shaped wire coming out of the other end. Thus the system provides a fast and easy way to
develop zigzag wires for chain link or mesh making.
A chain link fence is a fence "woven" from galvanized steel wire into a mesh cornet- type
configuration that forms a series of interlocking squares. This woven mesh is referred as the
"fabric" of the fence. It is secured to steel posts embedded in the ground, often used to enclose
schoolyards, parking lots, industrial property, tennis courts, baseball fields, and even residential
yards. It can also be used to create dog runs, kennels, and animal pens, and is regularly used as a
temporary fence to safeguard construction sites.

There is a need to better understand how wire quality affects the manufacturing of fences
because (1) to avoid wire strand breakage (2) to avoid subsequent field erection. For this aeries
tests of wire quality that can be conducted by fence producers for physical and metallurgical
properties were administered, this six potential test were i) Tensile strengthen ii) Ductility
iii)Three point bending iv)Impact energy v)Linear tensional conductivity vi) Micro-hardness.
The various tests of GI were conducted the data then statistically examined and compared. It was
found that linear tensional conductivity is the most sensitive and reliable indicator of wire
quality.
Chain link fence refers to a network of wires, which may be of different thicknesses.
For the manufacture of a two chain link wires run in a machine, in which they are wound in
turns at regular intervals to a metal rod. Then, this metal rod is pulled out, and one of the
two wires is pulled upward, so that the tips of the two wires together and hook into the
first row so that the chain-link is formed. Subsequently, again two wires go into the
machine and wrap around the already finished mesh. Once the wires are at the end, they
are cut off, the mesh is pulled upwards a little and two new wires go into the machine.

Galvanized wires are often used for the chain link fencing in order to avoid or reduce
corrosion. Steel wires coated with linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) are also common
materials for the manufacturing of these fences.

Due to the way the wires are arranged, chain-link fences are also referred to as wire
nettings, wire-mesh fences, diamond-mesh fences and chainmesh fences. Furthermore, they are
also called hurricane or cyclone fences because wind and rain can simply pass through this fence
without damaging the structure.
Installation of the Chain Link Fence

In order to set up chain-link security fencing around a property, posts will have to be
installed first so that the wire fence can be attached. These posts can be concrete, steel tubing, or
timber, and will have to be planted into the ground for stability

The terminal posts, such as the gate posts, as well as those on the end and corners of the
fence, should be anchored or set on concrete footing to prevent leaning or falling under the
tension of the stretched wire fence.

Place the line posts, which refer to the posts installed in between the terminal posts, in

intervals of no more than three meters.

Wire bending assembly

The chain link fence is then attached to one of the terminal posts (or on one end if the
fence is installed in one line) and stretched to be attached to the next terminal post (or the other
end of a one-sided fence). The excess wire fence is then cut and removed, and the wire is
unraveled to wrap the ends around the posts. The chain link fencing is then secured to the line
posts by tying it with aluminum wire.
The in-and-out movements that occur below the wire fence in between posts can cause
damage to the structure. And thus, a tension wire is often stretched in the bottom from one
terminal post to another to secure the wire fence. This bottom tension wire is also called a coil
wire. Generally, this tension wire is installed and secured to the line posts prior to the attachment
of the wire-mesh fence, which is then secured to the tension wire usually with the use of hog
rings. Depending on the situation, bottom horizontal rails are used instead of stretched tension
wires for more durability and stability especially for security fencing.

Tension wires or rails can also be installed on top of the wire-mesh fence, with top rails
being commonly used. This may not be necessary, but it depends on the scenario.

For fences that are more than three meters tall, intermediate rails (or middle rails) are
generally installed to ensure greater stability.
WORKING
OF
MATERIALS
MAJOR COMPONENTS OF MESH MAKING MACHINE

AC Motor:
An electric AC motor works on the principle that when an electric current is
passed through a conductor placed normally in a magnetic field, a force acts on the conductor as
a result of which the conductor begins to move and mechanical energy is obtained.

Bearing:
Friction is bound to occur between the rotating shaft and the part that supports the
rotation. Bearings are used between these two components. The bearings serve to reduce friction
and allow for smoother rotation. This cuts down on the amount of energy consumption.
Chain Sprockets:
Chain Sprockets are sturdy wheels with teeth that lock onto a chain. As the sprocket
spins, the teeth grab onto the chain and move other parts that interlock with the chain. This
sequential series of operations allows for simple and controlled rotational movement of larger
equipment and machinery.

Nut and Bolt:

Nuts are almost always used in conjunction with a mating bolt to fasten multiple parts
together. The two partners are kept together by a combination of their threads' friction (with
slight elastic deformation), a slight stretching of the bolt, and compression of the parts to be held
together.
Turning the bolt causes the threads to
move the complementary slot or nut upward
against the inclined plane.
Shaft:
The term shaft usually refers to a component of circular cross section that rotates and
transmits power from a driving device, such as a motor or engine, through a machine. Shafts can
carry gears, pulleys and sprockets to transmit rotary
motion and power via mating gears, belts and
chains.

Supporting Frame:

It has a wood, And it is supporting a all parts of material .

Basic of wire mesh:

Wire mesh is fabricated by the intertwining, weaving, or welding of wires of various
thicknesses to create proportionally equal parallel rows and intersecting columns. Also known as
wire fabric, wire cloth, or hardware mesh, the production of wire mesh involves the weaving of
wire on industrial looms, leaving square or rectangular gaps between the wires. Welded wire
mesh or fabric is manufactured using an electric welder that joins parallel longitudinal wires
where the wires intersect.
Slotted pipe:
Slotted pipe are used for oil and gas wells. Steel casing pipes and tubing are applied to
furnishing and installing cased tunnels, where they indicate to pass other utilities or obstructions
without open excavation. Steel casing pipes and tube have smooth wall and a minimum yield
strength of 35,000 psi. Corrosion-proofing water-based paint is applied on the outside pipe
surface to protect against atmospheric corrosion during transportation and storage.

Internal rod:
The internal rod is generally abbreviated to con-rod. It has connected on a bearing. And the
bearing rotate the rod also rotate to gives a output.
OPERATIONS INVOLVED
 Facing
 Drilling
 Welding
 Cutting
 Grinding
 Thread cutting

FACING
Machining the end of the work piece produce flat surface is called Due to this, the plate
can get flat surface have done by facing operation.

DRILLING
Drilling is operation of producing cylindrical hole in the work piece. It is done by rotating
the cutting edge of the cutter known as drill bit. In our project the drilling is done on the
supporting post for inserting the hinged eye bolt and nut.

WELDING
The process of joining two similar or dissimilar metals is known as welding. It is done
between the post and base.

GRINDING
A grinding machine uses an abrasive product — usually a rotating wheel — to shape and
finish a work piece by removing metal and generating a surface within a given tolerance. A
grinding wheel is made with abrasive grains bonded together. Each grain acts as a cutting tool,
removing tiny chips from the work piece.

THREAD CUTTING
Thread cutting is the operation of forming external thread of required diameter of rod by
using a multipoint tool is called thread. This process is used in equalizer clamp to done on the
rod, which is used for the movement of the clamp up and down.
CHAPTER II
WORKING
The single wire chain link machine adopts automatic threading, which saves a lot of
manpower and the overall mechanical performance is relatively stable. Based on this, the
servo motor and touch screen operating system are used to make the control more precise.
The automatic chain link jail fence machine only needs to click the speed and value of the
thread on the touch screen to achieve accurate grid width and accurately thread the net to
make the mesh surface smooth and beautiful. It avoids the waste of manpower caused by the
mistaken wear of the machinery in the past and causes the loss of raw materials.
Our chain link machine can also accurately control the length and time of the broken wire so
that the loss rate of raw materials is close to zero so that the chain of hook chain mesh can
ensure quality and increase production efficiency by 1.8-4 times.
Automatic locking, there are two forms of Knuckled and Twisted, and can be freely
combined. It saves a lot of manpower and time cost, and the overall mechanical
performance is stable.
Rolling the mesh automatically enables the production of the chain link net to be fully
mechanized and fully automated
Wire mesh is fabricated by the intertwining, weaving, or welding of wires of various
thicknesses to create proportionally equal parallel rows and intersecting columns. Also known as
wire fabric, wire cloth, or hardware mesh, the production of wire mesh involves the weaving of
wire on industrial looms, leaving square or rectangular gaps between the wires. Welded wire
mesh or fabric is manufactured using an electric welder that joins parallel longitudinal wires
where the wires intersect.

The processes used to produce wire mesh are weaving and welding, with wire weaving
being similar to the weaving of cloth on a loom, while welding is used to join the wires where
they intersect. Both processes are completed using pre-programmed machines. Galvanized wire
mesh is made from plain or carbon steel wire that is galvanized, a process that involves applying
a zinc coating. The zinc layer acts as a shield that protects the wire mesh against rust and
corrosion. Galvanized wire mesh can be welded or woven using galvanized wire or plain steel
wire that is galvanized after being woven or welded. Of the two processes, galvanizing the wire
mesh after it is processed initially costs more but produces a higher-quality wire mesh. -
Galvanized wire mesh is ideal for fencing for agriculture and gardening, greenhouse,
architecture, building and construction, security, window guards, and infill panels. Due to its
cost, it is one of the more widely used of the different types of wire mesh
The pattern of wire mesh determines its capacity and how it can be used. There are an endless
number of standard weave patterns and customized ones designed to fit a specific application.
One distinction between the various patterns is whether the wire is crimped or not crimped, with
crimping mechanically changing the contour of the weft or warp wires..

Automatic diamond mesh Chain link machines make chain link fences in various dimensions
like mesh size that can be made is ranging from 27mm till 145mm.

How diamond mesh chain link fencing is made.

The wire is retrieved from the payoff stand and then moved through the dies to in which
the result is a zigzag wire. The zigzag wire then gets cut by the cutting machine, thanks to the
sensor which enables the machine to achieve 100% accuracy in measuring the right length of the
wire.

Next is the weaving part where two zigzag wires gets weaved thus giving a diamond
mesh chain link pattern. Then the whole weaved diamond mesh chain link fence goes through the locker
part where the woven fence gets locked from both ends. The final step is to roll the diamond mesh chain
link fence using the roller part of the machine.
Installing a chain-link fence is a suitable decision for both home and entrepreneurs. It is a useful,
moderate, and flexible alternative. There are various applications for this sort of fencing in both
private homes and business areas.

A chain link fencing has various applications in commercial markets. The applications of chain
link are mostly observed in places where a wall will prove to be a wrong choice either in purpose
or in decision. In western countries like Europe, United States of America and similar developed
nations, the advantages of chain link are highly appreciated by wisely using a chain link in places
of a constructed wall.

Chain link is a galvanized/ PVC coated wire run through a machine to form into a zigzag pattern
which allows the next zigzag wire pattern to sew into it and form a couple. Such couples linked
to one another are multiplied to form a metal wall like structure which can offer you many
advantages by feature. A chain link fence will look like a wire made into a diamond shape
linearly. This made chain link to the required height and length as per your requirement is then
fastened to firm fencing posts which can hold the chain link in position to form a transparent
wall. A chain link fence is mostly preferred as a cost-cutting solution.

Regarding the appearance, the wire extends vertically and is bent into a zigzag shape. Each "zig"
is hooked on one side of the wire, and each "zag" is hooked on the other side. This design forms
a unique diamond pattern often seen in this type of fence.

Many chain link fencing machine suppliers provide automatic chain link fencing machines that
can be used to produce 2 to 6 meters wide chain link fences and use different materials such as
galvanized wire, cast iron, and SUS wire. Customers can choose different types of re-coilers
according to their production requirements.
Chain link fencing is a method of fencing used to secure a boundary which has several
advantages beyond an opaque wall. Chain link is a galvanized/ PVC coated wire run through a
machine to form into a zigzag pattern which allows the next zigzag wire pattern to sew into it
and form a couple. Such couples linked to one another are multiplied to form a metal wall like
structure which can offer you many advantages by feature. A chain link fence will look like a
wire made into a diamond shape linearly. This made chain link to the required height and length
as per your requirement is then fastened to firm fencing posts which can hold the chain link in
position to form a transparent wall. A chain link fence is mostly preferred as a cost-cutting
solution.

The manufacturing of chain-link fencing is called weaving. A metal wire, often

galvanized to reduce corrosion, is pulled along a rotating long and flat blade, thus creating a
somewhat flattened spiral. The spiral continues to rotate past the blade and winds its way through
the previous spiral that is already part of the fence. When the spiral reaches the far end of the
fence, the spiral is cut near the blade. Next, the spiral is pressed flat and the entire fence is moved
up, ready for the next cycle. The end of every second spiral overlap the end of every first spiral.
The machine clamps both ends and gives them a few twists. This makes the links permanent.

An improved version of the weaving machine winds two wires around the blade at once, thus
creating a double helix. One of the spirals is woven through the last spiral that is already part of
the fence. This improvement allows the process to advance twice as fast.

Usage:

The finished chain link mesh is used as fencing for sports field, river banks, construction and
residence, also animal fencing. Especially, well suitable for a wide range of application, for
example for enclosing Lawn, Road. Steel diamond mesh has a heavy galvanized coating to
ensure a long life.
Wire Differences in Chain-Link Fences

There are different types of wires to consider when it comes to chain link fencing. The
most popular among these types are the heavy galvanized wires. These steel wires are coated by
hot-dipping them into protective and rust-repellent metals at extremely high temperatures of
around 450°C. This chemical process is called galvanization, and for most products, zinc is used
as the coating metal.

GALVANISED WIRES

Chain-link fences with galvanized wire are ideally used in areas where the environment
requires a heavy-duty material that can withstand extreme elements. Regular hot-dip galvanized
wires with 2.5mm diameter are used in most chain-link fences while heavy galvanized wires
with 3.15mm diameter are used for commercial fencing.
VINYL-COATED WIRES

Wires can also be coated with a black or green polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or vinyl, which
is intended to further prolong the life of the fence by having an extra coating around the
galvanized wire against rust and corrosion. The vinyl-coated wire is a better option when your
property is around or near coastal areas. The salty air can break down the zinc coating in
galvanized wires more quickly than usual, and thus, causing your fence to rust. The vinyl coating
can protect the galvanized wires, ensuring your fences will last a long time.

GREEN PVC WIRES

Vinyl-coated chain-link fences come in black and green, as well as in many other colours.
The ultimate choice will generally depend on your personal preferences. In essence, people
choose green vinyl chain-link so that the fence will blend into the background, especially in
gardens and grass lawns.

BLACK PVC WIRES

On the other hand, some people use black chain-link mesh to create a bold statement, as it
creates a stark profile against gardens and lawns. Furthermore, when used with black metal rails
and posts, the black PVC chain-link fences can look like wrought iron structures from afar, and
thus, giving your property a high-end appeal. However, some people also use black PVC fence
mesh to create a "transparent" fence depending on the background or the landscape.
Chain-Link Fence for Privacy Purposes
One common misconception of opting for a chain-link fence is that
it's "obviously" not for privacy purposes because of the holes. When in
fact, there are various ways to add privacy with this wire fence.

 Attaching privacy fence screens. They are designed to withstand

weather elements and can be easily secured.

 Inserting slats: They can be intertwined horizontally or vertically

through the wire mesh to help reduce visibility from outsiders.

 Growing vines for a natural look: Depending on the plants you use,
vines on chain-link fences can completely or partially provide
privacy.

 Using greenery panels: You can use these garden decors if you prefer
an eco-friendly but maintenance-free and easy-to-control privacy
cover.
