INTERVIEW SKILLS
The term ‘interview’ has been derived from the French word ‘entre voir ’ that means to glimpse
or to see each other. Generally, an interview means a private meeting between people when
questions are asked and answered.
1.TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF
➢ I have your resume in front of me but tell me more about yourself.
➢ Walk through your resume.
➢ I’d love to hear more about your journey.
➢ Tell me a little bit more about your background.
Mostly, you start with your name, which is already in the resume, so better avoid
it. Secondly, avoid explaining your qualifications but experience is essential.
Example:
I've been in the marketing industry for over five years, primarily working in account and project
management roles. I most recently worked as a senior Project Manager for a large tech
company managing large marketing campaigns and overseeing other project managers. And
now I'm looking to expand my experience across different industries, particularly fintech,
which is why I'm so interested in joining an esteemed organization/agency like yours.

2.What Are Your Greatest Strengths?

➢ Your best qualities…..
➢ Your uniqueness lies in …..
➢ Your perfectionist role……
You are ready with an answer like sympathizing with others, a good Samaritan etc,

Example (Organizational Skills)

I never miss a deadline. I’m highly organized, and I’ve applied my natural skill for organizing
people and projects to all aspects of my work. After seven years of working as a project
manager, I’ve had only one late product launch. From that experience, which took place three
years ago, I learned a crucial lesson about trade-offs. I spent time addressing a crucial design
need and that pushed everything else back. I wouldn’t trade the lessons I learned from that
experience for anything—being sure to communicate to stakeholders about upcoming
roadblocks chief among them.

3.Tell me about your weakness

Mostly found answers
1. I focus too much on the details.
2. I have a hard time letting go of a project.
3. I am too young to say “no.”
4. Not an adept in public speaking…
5. Unskilled at delegating tasks….
6. Sensitive /delicate to deal with critics…
7. Take up too much responsibility
8. Lack of confidence….

1
Example (Lack of self-confidence)
I’m naturally shy. From high school and into my early professional interactions, it prevented
me from speaking up. After being a part of a workgroup that didn’t meet our strategic goals
two quarters in a row, I knew I owed it to my team and myself to confidently share my ideas. I
joined an improv acting class—it’s fun and has really helped me overcome my shyness. I
learned practical skills around leading discussions and sharing diverse perspectives. Now, in
group settings, I always start conversations with the quieter folks. I know exactly how they feel,
and people can be amazing once they start talking.

4.Why do you want to work here?

➢ Is it the appropriate place for you?
➢ What made you to choose this place?
➢ Are you at the right place?

Example:
The company’s mission to help college graduates pay off their student loan debt speaks to me.
I’ve been in that situation and I’d love the opportunity to work with a company that’s making
a difference. Finding a company with a positive work environment and values that align with
my own has remained a priority throughout my job search and this company ranks at the top
of the list.

5.Where do you see yourself in five years?

➢ Would you quit after five years?
➢ What is your contribution after five years?

Example:
In five years, I’d like to be an industry expert in my field with the ability to train and mentor
students and entry-level designers. I would also like to gain specialized knowledge in user
experience to be a well-rounded contributor working with design and marketing teams on large
scale projects that make a difference in the company and to the global community.”
