BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR LEARNERS


Communities are diverse. They never static entities that are simplistic and narrow. The
interpretation itself of what a community is has been debated by social scientists and thought leaders. This
diversity of a common idea exposes the narrative that is vibrant and ever changing or evolving until this
day. The constant struggle to find identity in the science of communities is dependent upon the context
used. The different branches of knowledge look into the subject of communities in varied ways as lenses of
inquiry shift on every direction with the slightest change on technical term or environment.
This unit focuses on threshing out the definitions of the community to its most basic and
understandable from. The students are challenged to apply these categorizations into an understanding of
their real world.

ACTIVITY 2. What’s Out There? Write an essay about the topic using guide questions. In writing your
essay, always remember the three Cs (Content, Clarity, and Cohesion). Always be mindful of the content,
be clear on what you say, and be disciplined in ordering your ideas.

Topic: What do you think are the institutions that are still lacking in terms of the basic necessities in
helping out the public? Discuss the problems thoroughly and cite how groups can aid this
problem.
