    Environmental Policies

    EXPECTATIONS

    LESSON

    The three R's-reduce, reuse and recycle-all help reduce the amount of waste
    that we throw away. They save natural resources, space, and electricity for landfills.
    Plus, land and resources that communities must use to dispose of waste in landfills
    are saved by the three R's. Owing to environmental restrictions and public
    opposition, it has become difficult and more costly to find a new landfill.

    The "3Rs." are also referred to as the concept of reducing waste, reusing, and
    recycling resources and goods. Reducing means choosing to use items with care to
    minimize the amount of waste generated. Reuse includes regular use of objects or
    parts of items that still have components that are available. Recycling involves using
    waste as a resource itself. Waste minimization can be accomplished efficiently by
    concentrating mainly on "reduce," followed by "reuse" and then "recycle." the first of
    the 3Rs.

    The First R-Reduce


    Reduce- To make or use less of something smaller, resulting in a smaller amount of
    waste. The principle of reducing what is created and what is consumed is vital to the
    hierarchy of waste. If there is less waste, so there is less to recycle or reuse. The
    reasoning behind it is easy to understand. The 'reducing' method starts with an
    appraisal of what you are using, and what it is used for.

    Here are some of the things you can do to reduce waste:

    • Use Old Parts from Existing Computers.


    • buy used parts rather than pay the extra money for parts that are brand new.

    • Do not Buy Unnecessary Parts.
    • To minimize paper wastage, print on both sides of the paper.
    • Use paperless methods to communicate.

    The Second R- Reuse


    Reuse -to use again or more than once. You may have a box of items that you keep
    that are broken or that you do not have a need for you to hang on and find some use
    for them in-case; or you can find sales on old furniture or go trash picking and get
    stuff that you can refinish-you are working to reuse the item in either case. In the
    waste hierarchy, learning to reuse products or repurpose them for use other than
    what they are intended for is important. Reuse products and objects so that after the
    first cycle they have longer life cycles and do not get thrown away. You may either
    reuse such goods for your own use or donate them so that they can be used by others.
    Here are some of the things you can do to reuse waste:

    • Convert Old CD-ROM to CD Player Music


    • Save the fans, heatsinks, LEDs, switches, and similar items for use on various
    occasions later.
    • Turn an old hard drive into an external hard drive.
    • On an old computer, students who want to learn how to repair computers might
    practice. They will harvest components to add to their custom-built computers from
    it.
    • Repair damaged items.

    The Third R- Recycle


    Recycle - to convert materials/waste into reusable material. Recycling is the last step of
    the waste hierarchy. Recycling means that it can once again be converted into a raw
    material that can be transformed into a new piece. There are very few items on the planet,
    however, which cannot be recycled. One must consider what goods can be recycled and
    what they cannot. It can be the first step towards successful recycling by carefully
    selecting the items that can be recycled.

    Here are some of the things you can do to recycle waste:

    • Repair and Resell Computers.

    • Combine Used Computer Parts to Make “New” Computers.
    • Turn Them into Fun DIY Projects.

    Benefits of the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ Waste Hierarchy

    • Because the amount of waste thrown into the atmosphere will be greatly
    decreased, the chances of transmitting toxins will also decrease. It
    automatically reduces the emission and pollution levels of greenhouse gases.
    • The Waste Hierarchy removes the practice of unsafe handling of waste, i.e.,
    haphazardly burning waste and garbage in an unregulated way. Instead, it
    helps us to handle waste in an eco-friendly way, reducing the chance of
    environmental harm.
    • The primary purpose of the 3R principle is to reduce the use of new resources
    and energy, making resource use more efficient. By utilizing the resources
    already available that are used several times, reprocessed, or completely
    reduced, it encourages resource quality.
    • As the resources available on hand are used and unnecessary use is
    minimized, this leads to more balanced energy use. It encourages not only
    energy and money, but also the atmosphere to be sustainable.
    • It supports the production of green technologies, which are ways of creating
    healthier, safer waste disposal practices, while reducing the effect on the
    ecosystem and all ecosystems.

    Those three R's are: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The best way to have a positive effect
    on our world is by these three. It is necessary to put these into effect, because
    landfill space is running out rapidly, plastic waste is growing in our oceans, and
    our climate is degrading at a faster rate.

    This module talked about the 3Rs hierarchy, and importance 0f 3Rs
    environmental policies. Those three R's are: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The best way
    to have a positive effect on our world is by these three. It is necessary to put these
    into effect, because landfill space is running out rapidly, plastic waste is growing
    in our oceans, and our climate is degrading at a faster rate.
