3. The term IP means.
a. Internet protocol c. Information provider
b. Information protocol d. Internet provider
4. What is the purpose of a Subnet Mask?
a. It determines which services on your computer remote users on the network can access.
b. To communicate and send data back and forth.
c. Separates the IP address into the network and host addresses
d. Protects the network from viruses
5. All of the following are examples of IP addresses class exempt.

Let’s Understand (Study the Concept)

Local Area Network Or LAN.

A LAN is a network limited to an area such as a home or small business that is used to interconnect
devices. LAN settings can be configured to limit the number of devices that can be connected and
what IP addresses those devices will receive.
What are the 2 types of LAN networks.
In general, there are two types of LANs: client/server LANs and peer-to-peer LANs.
A client/server LAN consists of several devices (the clients) connected to a central server. The
server manages file storage, application access, device access, and network traffic. A client can be
any connected device that runs or accesses applications or the Internet. The clients connect to the
server either with cables or through wireless connections.
A peer-to-peer LAN does not have a central server and cannot handle heavy workloads like a
client/server LAN can, and so they are typically smaller. On a peer-to-peer LAN, each device shares
equally in the functioning of the network. The devices share resources and data through wired or
wireless connections to a switch or router. Most home networks are peer-to-peer.
How To Check Your LAN Settings on Windows
Go to the Control Panel > Internet Options > Connection’s tab and then click on LAN settings: (Fig.

In the window that opens, clear the checkboxes next to Use
a proxy server for your LAN and Use automatic
configuration script. The Automatically detect settings
option is the only one that should remain enabled:
Below is an example of hard drive, disc drive and flash drive
Click on OK to save your settings. Open your web
browser and try to connect to other websites. If the problem
persists, then the only alternative left is to perform a system
restore. (Fig 2)
GATEWAY
A gateway is a hardware device that acts as a "gate"
between two networks. It may be a router firewall, server,
or other device that enables
traffic to flow in and out of the network. While a gateway
Figure 1 protects the nodes within network, it also a node itself. The
gateway node is considered to be on the "edge" of the
network as all data must flow through it before coming in
or going out of the network. It may also translate data
received from outside networks into a format or protocol
recognized by devices within the internal network. A router
is a common type of gateway used in home networks. It
allows computers within the local network to send and
receive data over the Internet.

FIREWALL
A firewall is a more advanced type of gateway, which filters
inbound and outbound traffic, disallowing incoming data
from suspicious or unauthorized sources. A proxy server is
another type of gateway that uses a combination of
hardware and software to filter traffic between two networks.
For example, a proxy server may only allow local computers

to access a list of authorized websites.

TURN MICROSOFT DEFENDER FIREWALL ON OR OFF

Microsoft Defender Windows 10
It's important to have Microsoft Defender Firewall on, even if you already have another firewall on.
It helps protect you from unauthorized access.
To turn Microsoft Defender Firewall on or off:
1. Select the Start button > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security and then Firewall
& network protection. Open Windows Security settings (Fig. 3 - )

Figure 3 Figure 4

2. Select a network profile. (Fig. 7)

3. Under Microsoft Defender Firewall, switch the setting to
On. If your device is connected to a network, network policy
settings might prevent you from completing these steps.
(Fig. 7) For more info, contact your administrator.
4. To turn it off, switch the setting to Off. Turning off Microsoft
Defender Firewall could make your device (and network, if
you have one) more vulnerable to unauthorized access. If
there's an app you need to use that's being blocked, you can Figure 7
allow it through the firewall, instead of turning the firewall off.
(Fig. 8 Image: Showing firewall is turn on and no actions
needed)
Note: If you get errors, or if the setting won't turn on, you can
use the troubleshooter and then try again.

True or False: Write T if the statement is correct and F it is incorrect. Write your answer
on the separate sheet of paper.

1. A LAN is a network limited to an area such as a home or small business that is used to
interconnect devices.
2. In general, there are three types of LANs
3. A peer-to-peer LAN does not have a central server.
4. A LAN setting can be configured to limit the number of devices that can be connected.
5. A client/server LAN consists of several devices (the clients) connected to a
central server.

Security and then Firewall & network protection.
3. Under Microsoft Defender Firewall, switch the setting to On.
4. To turn it off, switch the setting to Off.
5. If the setting won't turn on, you can use the troubleshooter and then try
again.
