Math Reflection Rambaud

1) The document is a reflection paper summarizing 9 lessons on geometry's axiomatic structure. It discusses key concepts learned in each lesson such as undefined terms, postulates, theorems, and different types of triangle congruence. 2) The author had some difficulty distinguishing between corollaries and lemmas, and proving statements, but generally understood the content. 3) To improve, the author would research concepts they were unsure of, practice more problems, and review lessons to solidify their knowledge.

Reflection Paper

I. Lesson 1: Axiomatic Structure of a Mathematical System (In Geometry)

 What have I learned from this lesson:

- I have learnt that the Axiomatic System is composed of different parts; Theorems,
Corollaries, Lemmas, Postulates/Axioms, Defined Terms, and Undefined Terms. These are
used in proving logical statement in Geometry.

 Where do I have difficulty in understanding?

- I am still quite confused on what are corollaries and lemmas, though aside from that, I
do not have any difficulties in understanding the other terms in this lesson.

 What I should do to improve:

- In order to improve my knowledge regarding to this lesson, I have to study and research
more about the parts have difficulty in.

 Teachers’ Remarks

II. Lesson 2: Axiomatic Structure on Undefined Terms and Defined Terms

 What I have learned from this lesson:

- I have learned that the Undefined Terms are the building blocks of Geometry, while
Defined Terms are the subsets of the Undefined Terms. The three (3) undefined terms are; Point, Line
and Plane. Undefined Terms cannot be defined, instead are illustrated.

 Where do I have difficulty in understanding?

- I do not find anything difficult to understand in this lesson. I’ve achieved the
knowledge of understanding the whole lesson.

 What I should do to improve:

- For me to improve, I’ll have to continue studying this lesson, in order to not have any
confusion about any parts of this lesson.

 Teachers’ Remarks
III. Lesson 3: Axiomatic Structure on Postulates and Theorems
 What I have learned from this lesson:

- I have learned that Postulates are statements that are proven to be true without needing
any proof. While Theorems are statements that needs to be proven before accepted
to be true. These statements can be used to prove other logical conclusions. I have
also learned that Axioms and Postulates are the same, except Axioms are used in other
branches of Mathematics while Postulates are used in Geometry.

- A theorem is a major result; A corollary is a theorem which follows on from another

theorem and a lemma is a small result. Both Corollary and Lemma are special
kinds of theorems.

 Where do I have difficulty in understanding?

- I have some confusion between Corollaries and Lemmas, but aside from them, I don’t
have much trouble understanding any parts of this lesson, I understood what the
statements meant and their purpose.

 What I should do to improve:

- If I want to improve, I should understand the lesson more. If I don’t want any more
confusion, I have to really understand the parts of the lesson that I’m confused on.

 Teachers’ Remarks

IV. Lesson 4: Triangle Congruence Postulates

 What I have learned from this lesson:

- In this lesson, I’ve learned the corresponding parts and their congruence. I’ve also
learned about the relationship between sides and angles.

- Included side; A side that is common between two angles of a triangle.

- Included angle; An angle that is in between two sides of a triangle.

 Where do I have difficulty in understanding?

- I do not have any difficulties in understanding this lesson. It is simple, and I fully
understood it.

 What I should do to improve:

- I fully understand this lesson, but to improve my knowledge towards this lesson, I can
continuously review it to not forget any of the important terms that I need to
remember.

 Teachers’ Remarks

SSS Postulate SAS Postulate ASA Postulate SAA Theorem

V. Lesson 5: Illustrating Triangle Congruence using SSS, SAS, ASA, SAA

 What I have learned from this lesson:

- I have learned that two triangles can be congruent based on these Postulates/Theorems.
I’ve also learned how they are illustrated and how you can know whether they are a
type of any of these postulates/theorems.

 Where do I have difficulty in understanding?

- I don’t have any difficulties in understanding the lesson, though I get confused at times,
I have to really analyze the figure before knowing which Postulate or Theorem it is. I mostly get
confused by the SAA Theorem, Sometimes I think it’s side-side-angle, which isn’t a thing.

 What I should do to improve:

- For me to improve, I have to thoroughly understand the figure before answering or

deciding if I don’t want to make a mistake.

 Teachers’ Remarks

VI. Lesson 6: Solving Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles

 What I have learned from this lesson

- I have learned how to solve for the missing measurements of sides or angles of two
congruent triangles. With the use of CPCTC and other Postulates/Theorems, I fully
understand how to solve for a missing measurement, basing that they are both
congruent.
 Where do I have difficulty in understanding?

- I do not have any difficulty in any parts of this lesson. In fact, I think this is the only
lesson I understood easily.

 What I should do to improve:

- Despite fully understanding this lesson, I still have parts where I should improve in, and
to improve, I need to practice solving using different questions, in order to widen my
knowledge regarding lesson.

 Teachers’ Remarks

VII. Lesson 7: Proving Two Triangles are Congruent

 What I have learned from this lesson:

- I have learned how to prove that two triangles are congruent with the use of these
Postulates/Theorems. I have learned how to make an open two-column proof in
proving two triangles congruent with these Postulates/Theorems. I have
also learned new Definitions, Postulates and Theorems in this lesson.

- Definitions, Postulates or Theorems such as; Reflexive property, Right Angle Theorem,
Definition of an angle bisector, Definition of a perpendicular bisector, Vertical angle
theorem, Definition of Midpoint, and Definition of a segment bisector

 Where do I have difficulty in understanding?

- I have difficulty in proving itself. Being logic and needing it to prove is a weakness of
mine. I’m not the best at logic and proving.

 What I should do to improve:

- What I need to do in order to improve is to understand how proving works more. I need
to practice proving more if I want to fully understand how to prove a statement.

 Teachers’ Remarks

VIII. Lesson 8: Congruence in Overlapping Triangles

 What I have learned from this lesson:
- I have learned how to analyze and understand the overlapping of triangles, on how to
separate both triangles in order to not get confused with the sides, and how to
prove the congruence of overlapping triangles. I have also learned two new
postulates; The Angle Addition Postulate and the Segment Addition Postulate.

 Where do I have difficulty in understanding?

- I do have trouble in fully analyzing overlapping triangles in general, sometimes I take

too long to understand and analyze the figure, which takes too much time. I also
have a hard time proving in general.

 What I should do to improve:

- I have a hard time fully understanding this lesson, so in order for me to improve, I’ll
need more time to review this lesson, I’ll have to put in an effort to understand this
lesson for me to not get confused in any more parts.

 Teachers’ Remarks:

IX. Lesson 9: Theorems on Isosceles Triangles

 What I have learned from this lesson:

- I have learned more theorems, this time it’s regarding Isosceles triangles. I’ve learned 2
new theorems; The Isosceles triangle theorem and the Converse of Isosceles triangle
theorem.

 Where do I have difficulty in understanding?

- I have no difficulties in understanding this lesson, it came off quite simple and easy to
understand.

 What I should do to improve:

- Despite it being easy, I have to take note of all the important terms to remember and to
always keep them in mind.

 Teachers’ Remarks
X. Lesson 10: Constructing Perpendicular Bisector
 What I have learned from this lesson:

 Where do I have difficulty in understanding?

 What I should do to improve:
