Teaching Demonstration

Introduction: “Good morning panelists, good morning students. I am teacher Mariz, and today, I am going
to be your English teacher. I hope class that you will participate and cooperate.”

Prayer: May I request everybody to please stand for our prayer.


“Let us put ourselves in the Holy presence of God.
“Student will lead the prayer”

Greetings: “Once again, good morning class!”

Checking of Classroom Condition: “Before you settle down, please arrange your chairs properly.”
“You may now settle down.”
“How are you doing, class?”
“Good to hear that you’re all doing great.”

Checking of Attendance: “I believe everybody is ready, I will now check your attendance.”
“Is there any absent today?”
“Very good class, almost perfect attendance. Keep it up, class!”

Classroom Management: “Before we start, let us learn first about our classroom rules.”
“First, listen attentively when the teacher is discussing.”
“Second, raise your hand if you want to answer, or if you have questions.”
“Third, no smartphones or other personal devices allowed during class.”
“Fourth, participate in our activities, and I will be giving rewards to those students
who will participate.”
“Am I clear, class?
“Are you ready to learn new topic today?”

Presentation of Objectives: “Class, upon completion of this lesson, you are expected to fulfill all these
following objectives at the end of the period.”
Objectives:
At the end of the period, at least 85 percent of the students will be able to:
 Identify the cause and effect, and the grammatical signals used in the sentence.
 Construct sentences using the grammatical signals that indicate cause and effect.
 Show respect and unity in doing the task.

LESSON PROPER
A. Activity/Presentation
1. Motivation: “Let’s have an activity.”
“I will show you pictures showing two scenarios and I want you to observe
carefully and share your ideas about the pictures.”
“Okay class, who can share their ideas about the picture?”
“The first scenario shows deforestation where a man is cutting down the trees.”
“How about the second picture? Who can share their ideas?”
“The second picture shows a landslide.”
“Between the two scenarios, which do you think is the cause?”
“Why do you say that the first picture is the cause?”
“The first picture illustrates illegal logging. Illegal logging will lead to deforestation.
And deforestation is the the cause why landslide occur.
“The first picture is the cause why landslide occurred.”
“Therefore, the second picture is the effect?”
“Do you get me class?”
“Another question, what do you think is the relation between the first scenario and
second scenario?
“The two scenarios show cause and effect relation. And that is our topic this
morning.
“We are going to talk about Cause and Effect Pattern of Idea Development using
Appropriate Grammatical Signals.”

A. Analysis/Discussion: “Cause and Effect describes an event/action that is caused by another


event/action.
“Cause is the reason why something happened. It answers the question, what
happened first? Therefore, cause is the first event. And when the author talks about the reason, it referred to
a cause. They key term for cause is reason”
“Effect is the result of an action. It answers the question, “What happened after?”
When the author talks about the result, it referred to effect. The key term for effect is,
result.
“Do you get me class?”
“For example: Seth forgot to close the gate, so his pet dog ran away.” In this
sentence, there are two events. Seth forgot to close the gate and his pet dog ran away.”
“Of these two events, which do you think is the first event?”
“Is it Seth forgot to close the gate or His pet dog ran away?”
“It is, Seth forgot to close the gate. It is the reason why his pet dog ran away. This is
what we call, CAUSE.””As what I’ve mention earlier, the key term for CAUSE is
REASON.”
“And what happened next was, his pet dog ran away. This is what we call, the
EFFECT. It is the result of the first event.

“Now let us have another example: Mary screamed because a frog jump on her.”
“Again, there are two events in this sentence. Mary screamed and a frog jump on her.
Of these two events, which do you think is the first event or the reason why
something happened?”
“It is, a frog jump on her, therefore, it is the CAUSE in this sentence.”
“What happened next when a frog jump on her? Mary screamed, therefore this is the
EFFECT.”

“Again, Cause is the reason why something happened or what happened first. Then,
the effect is the result or what happened after that.”
“Is it clear, class?”
“Awesome!”

“Let’s proceed to the grammatical signals.”


“Grammatical signals - are writing devices or connectors that are used in a sentence to
maintain text coherence (consistent).
“Here are the sample signals used to express CAUSES, if, for, since, due to, because,
because of, one cause, resulting from.”
“For example: I cannot attend the meeting, because I have a horrible headache. What
is the grammatical signal used in the sentence?”
Dave stayed at home all day, for it rained very heavily.

“Here are the sample signals used to express EFFECTS, so, thus, hence, then, as a
result, in effect, as consequence, consequently, leads to, that is why
“For example: Mom wanted to make a special dinner, so she went to the store.
Ella is kind that is why she has many friends.

Abstraction: “Again class, how will you identify the cause and the effect in the sentence?”
“Cause is the reason why something happened or the first to happen and the effect is
the result or what happened after.”
“How about the signal words in expressing causes?” if, for, since, due to, because,
because of, one cause, resulting from.”
“Very good, class!”
“I believe you already understand our topic. This time, we are going to have a group
activity.”
Application: “I will divide the class into 4 groups. I will assign a picture to each group. Each
group should construct five sentences using the grammatical signals
that indicate cause and effect, based from the given picture. After that, you
have to choose a representatives to present your outputs.” I will give you
10 minutes to finish the task.
“Job well done class. Let’s give yourselves a big hand.”

Assessment: “For us to understand more about our topic, let us have a short quiz. I will give you 10
minutes to finish answering the quiz.”

Assignment: Directions: Construct a paragraph (composed of 10 sentences) discussing the


importance of showing unity in the class, school, and community. Make sure to
include grammatical signals that show cause-effect relationship.
