DIRECTION: Read the paragraphs below; then, circle the claim
and box the evidence.

1. Reflective thinking is an essential tool for students to become better thinkers.


It aids student to visualize concepts that can be debated and discussed.
According to Bridges and Jost (2011), students who regularly write a reflective
journal about their semester’s course content could apply deeper analysis course
concepts compared to others.

2. Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” is the inspiration behind Disney’s “Lion King”.


The heir of King/Mufasa, Simba, represents Hamlet who wanted to avenge
his father from his villainous uncle Scar/Claudius. Similarly, Ophelia and
Horatio are represented by Simba’s best friend Nala who is his love interest
and best friend.

3. The government often places higher taxes to products with negative impact
to the community to discourage use. Cigarettes and alcohol are examples of
this. Therefore, obesity should also be given the same treatment. With
affordable cheap prices given to soft drinks and junk food, consumers are
encouraged to purchase products that are not healthy. Putting higher taxes for
this product will discourage consumers to patronize them.

4. To discourage consumption, the government frequently imposes greater


taxes on items that have a detrimental impact on the community. Cigarettes and
booze are two examples. As a result, obesity should receive the same therapy.
Consumers are encouraged to purchase unhealthy items because soft drinks
and junk food are sold at low costs. Higher tariffs on these items will deter
people from purchasing them.
