The document provides instructions for operating a MIRA OPHTHALMIC CRYO device. It describes the steps the scrubbed and scout nurses take to prepare, test, and shut down the cryo probe for ophthalmic procedures.
1. The scrubbed RN unwraps the sterile cryo probe to be used and hands the probe jack to the scout nurse. The scout nurse removes the protective cap from the probe jack and inserts the probe jack into the slot marked “probe” on the front console.
2. The scout RN turns the ON/OFF valve to the ON position
3. The scout RN checks that the cylinder pressure is 680-900 PSI
(In the Green Zone on all ‘4000’ series models).
4. The scout RN sets the temperature selector at -25°C.
5. The scout/scrub RN PRE- COOLS the probe:
Depress the foot pedal for 10 seconds. Wait AT LEAST 90 seconds. Repeat this Step
6. To test probes performance:
Scrub RN removes the white protective cap from the probe tip. Scout RN selects desired temperature. (NB:In most cases the coldest setting is preferred) Scrub RN submerges the probe tip ( no more than 2cm ) in sterile saline. Depress the foot pedal for 10 seconds, keeping the probe in the liquid. With the foot pedal still depressed, remove the probe tip from the fluid. An ice ball of 4-7mm diameter will have formed. Release the foot pedal. Within 2 seconds the ice ball should be free to move. THE CRYO UNIT IS NOW READY FOR USE
SHUT DOWN PROCEDURE
1. Turn off the gas supply at the tank.
2. Ensuring the ‘on/off’ switch is ‘on’ depress the foot pedal repeatedly until the gas pressure gauge goes to zero ‘0’.
3. Turn the ‘on/off’ switch ‘off’ and turn the temperature selector switch to ‘-25 degrees C’ so the cryo is ready for the purge cycle when next in use.
