SECTION A
1. Answer two or three questions
1 (a) Relate the story of the birth of 3esus in Bethlehem (Luke 2: 1-7)
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be
taken of the entire Roman world.
This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was govern of
Syria.
Everyone, then, went to register himself, each to his own town.
Joseph went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to the town of
Bethlehem in Judaea, the birth place of King David.
Because he belonged to the house and line of David.
He went there to be registered with Mary.
Who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
While they were there in Bethlehem, the time came for her to have her
baby.
She gave birth to her first son, wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid
him in a manger.
There was no room for them to stay in the inn.

(b) Name any two ceremonies Jewish parents carried out for their newly born
baby boys and state when each one of those ceremonies took place.
Circumcision: Took place when baby was eight days old.
Dedication: Took place when baby was one month old (after 30 days)

2 (a) Describe how God instructed Abraham to keep God’s covenant through
circumcision. (Genesis 17: 10-14)

This will show that there is a covenant between you and God.

3 (a) Narrate the story of 3esus healing the paralytic man. (Luke 5: 17- 26)
Jesus was teaching.
Pharisees and teachers of the law were there.
Some men came, carrying a paralysed man on a bed (sleeping mat).
Tried to take him to Jesus.
Could not pass through the crowd in the house.
Carried him up on the roof.
Made an opening in the roof.
Let the man down through the hole on his bed.
Landed right in front of Jesus.
Jesus saw they had great faith.
Said to the sick man, “Your sins are forgiven.
The religious leaders/Pharisees and teachers of the law, said this was
blasphemy.
Only God can forgive sins, they said.
Jesus said, “Is it easier to say ‘your sins are forgiven or get up and
walk?”
Jesus then said to the man, “Pick up your bed and go home.”
The man stood up at once, picked up his bed,
Went home, praising God.
Were all amazed.
What wonderful things we have seen today.”

A spirit attacks, him with a sudden shout and throws him into a fit.
He foams at the mouth
It keeps on hurting and hardly lets him go

Then he said to the man, “bring your son here.”
As the boy was Coming, the demons knocked him to the ground and threw

The man asked;
Jesus replied, “Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not

“All these I have kept, the young man said, “What do I still lack?”
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possession and
give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven

Elizabeth was filled with the holy spirit

- Why should this great thing happen to me, that my lord’s mother comes to

2. (a) Relate the story of the imprisonment and the death of John the Baptist. [5]
Mark 6:17-22
- Herod himself had ordered john’s arrest, and he had him tied up and put in
prison. Herod did this because of Herodias, whom he had married, even though
she was the wife of his brother Phillip.
- John the Baptist kept telling Herod, it isn’t right for you to marry your brother’s
wife.
- So Herodias held a grudge against john and wanted to kill him, but she could not
because of Herod.
- Herod was afraid of john because he knew that John was a good and holy man,
and so he kept him safe. He liked to listen to him, even though he became greatly
disturbed every time he heard him.
- Finally Herodias got her chance. It was on Herod’s birthday, when he gave a feast
for all the top government officials, the military chiefs, and the leading citizens of
Galilee.
- The daughter of Herodias came in and danced, and please Herod and his guests.
So the king said to the girl, what would you like to have? I will give you anything
you want.
- With many vows he said to her, I swear that I will give you anything you ask for,
even as much as half my kingdom!
- So the girl went out and asked her mother, what shall I ask for? The head of John
the Baptist, she answered.
- The girl hurried back at once to the king and demanded, I want you to give me
here and now the head of John the Baptist on a plate!
- This made the king very sad, but he could not refuse her because of the vows
he had made in front of his entire guest.
- So he sent off a guard at once with orders to bring john’s head. The guard left,
went to the prison, and cut John’s head off;
- Then he brought it on a place and gave it to the girl, who gave it to her mother.
- When john’s disciples heard about this, they came and got his body and buried it.

(b) In what ways was the work of Jesus different form that of John the Baptist?

- John challenged people to repent but not forgive sins while Jesus as the son of
God could forgive sin when people repented
- John baptized people with water as a sign of repentance in preparation for the
coming of Jesus while Jesus would baptize those who repented with the power of
the Holy Spirit, to help them live their lives to please God.
- John the Baptist could not cast out demons but Jesus did so
- John did not heal the sick but Jesus healed the sick

(C) (i) The president of a certain country directs that, “all government officials in
my administration should exhibit the right behavior as they carry out

3. (a) Relate the story of Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist [5]
Mathew 3:13 – 17
- At that time Jesus arrived from Galilee
- And came to john at the Jordan to be baptized by him.
- But john tried to make him change his mind
- “I ought to be baptized by you,” John said, “and yet you have come
to me!”
- But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so for now.
- For in this way we shall do all that God requires,” so john agreed.
- As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water.
- Then heaven was opened to him and he saw the spirit of God coming
down life a dove and lighting on him
- Then a voice said form heaven,
- This is my own dear son, with whom I am pleased.”

5. (a) Describe the story of the rich man and Lazarus [5]
Luke 16:19 – 30
- Here was once a rich man who dressed in the most expensive clothes and lived in
great luxury every day
- There was also a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who used to be
brought to the rich man’s door,
- Hopping to eat the bits of food that fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs
would come and lick his sores.
- The poor man died and was carried by the angels to sit beside Abraham at the
feast in heaven. The rich man died and was buried. And in Hades, where he was in
great pain, he looked up and saw Abraham, far away, with Lazarus at his side.
- So he called out, father Abraham! Take pity on me, and send Lazarus to dip his
finger in some water and cool off my tongue, because I am in great pain in this
fire!
- But Abraham said, remember, my son, that in your lifetime you were given all the
good things, while Lazarus got all the bad things. But now he is enjoying himself
here, while you are in pain.
- Besides all that, there is a deep pit lying between us, so that those who want to
cross over from here to you cannot do so, nor can anyone cross over to us from
where you are.
- The rich man said, and then I beg you, father Abraham; send Lazarus to my
father’s house.
- Where I have five brothers, let them go and warn them so that they, at least, will
come to this place of pain.
- Abraham said your brothers have Moses and the prophets to warn them; your
brothers should listen to what they say.
- The rich man answered. That is not enough, father Abraham! But if someone
were to rise from death and go to them, then they would turn from their sins.
- But Abraham said, if they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not
be convinced even if someone were to rise from death.

front of the gate.

- Peter was still trying to understand what the vision meant, when the Spirit said,
Listen! Three men are here looking for you
- So get ready and go down, and do not hesitate to go with them, have sent them.
- So Peter went down and said to the men, I am the man you are looking for.
Why have you come?
- Captain Cornelius sent us, they answered. He is a good man who worships God
and is highly respected by all the Jewish people. An angel of God told him to invite
you to his house, so that he could hear what you have to say.
- Peter invited the men in and had them spend the night there. The next day he
went got ready and went with them; and some of the believers from Joppa along
with him.

you, Let him have this place.

The man's servants came to him and said, Sir, it was good seed you sowed in your field;
where did the weeds come from?
It was some enemy who did this, he answered.
Do you want us to go and pull up the weeds? they asked him.
No, he answered, because as you gather the weeds you might pull up some of the
wheat along with them.
Let the wheat and the weeds both grow together until harvest. Then I will tell the
harvest workers to pull up the weeds first, tie them in bundles and burn them,
and then to gather in the wheat and put it in my barn.

I thank you that I am not like that tax collector over there.
I fast two days a week, and I give you one tenth of all my income. But the
tax collector stood at a distance and would not even raise his face to
heaven, but beat on his breast and said, God, have pity on me, a sinner!
I tell you, said Jesus, the tax collector, and not the Pharisee, was in the right
with God when he went home.
For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who
humble themselves will be made great.

He will show you a large furnished room upstairs,
