most infamous event, one of the biggest economical
disasters in boxing history. The 40,000 seat arena held

ranchers and farmers stormed the gates prior to the
opening round bell. And what a fight they witnessed!
The Dempsey-Gibbons fight was the only World’s
Heavyweight Boxing Championship that Jack Dempsey
ever fought that went the full fifteen rounds. There were
some isolated moments of action: Dempsey is said to
have had Gibbons hurt in round seven, but he could
not score a knockout. Gibbons landed hard punches to
Dempsey’s chin once in a while, but Dempsey shrugged
the punches off. In the end, Dempsey retained the title

others), Assisi (learned
about the life of St. Francis),
Pompeii, Sorrento and the
Isle of Capri (enjoyed a
