Study On Congruence
Abstract
Congruent shapes and it’s applications are found in daily life situations. While the applications of
congruence of triangles are limited in daily life situations.
This study deals with the applications of congruent triangles in real life situations, such as architecture
and construction field, trusses, Geodesic dome etc.
Keywords
Congruence, Trusses, Geodesic Domes
Introduction
Mathematics provides an effective way of building mental discipline and encourages logical reasoning
and mental rigor. Congruence refers to two figures or objects that are exact replicas of one another. The
congruent figures overlap point-to-point when they are stacked one on top of the other. The concept of
Congruence is helpful in the fields of architecture, landscape designs, product modeling and business-
to-business manufacturing. The triangle is one of the most stable shapes and congruence is essential for
producing even surfaces. Truss bridge and Geodesic Domes are some applications of congruent triangles.
The purpose of this project “ A study on congruence of triangles “ is to know more about the
congruence of triangles and it’s applications of real life.
Methodology
The method adopted for this study is descriptive analysis. The project is conducted based on
secondary data. After deciding the topic and the objective of the study, relevant data was collected from
various secondary sources like research articles, internet, e-book, books etc...
1. Pages of a book
2. The spokes of the ferris wheel
3. Pencils in a box
4. Nuts and bolts
5. Kidneys and lungs in our body
Congruence in figures is an interesting concept that helped us build and improve math reasoning skills.
Sometimes it forms a parameter of perfection and can be a useful element for quality checks. In our
human body, internal organs that are congruence of each other. These examples revealed the
importance of congruency in our daily life.
Two triangles are said to be congruent if pairs of their corresponding sides and angles are equal.
They are of the same size and shape.
Some of the congruent rules are given below:
SAS ( Side – Angle - Side) congruence rule
ASA (Angle – Side – Angle) congruence rule
SSS (Side – Side – Side) congruence rule
RHS congruence rule
AAS (Angle – Angle – Side) Congruence rule
You often see triangles used to create bridges. Bridges combine multiple triangles. They
apply compression and tension in different places. Triangles can be used to make trusses. Trusses
are used in many structures such as roofs, bridges and buildings.
Truss Bridge
Trusses combine horizontal beams and diagonal beams to form triangles. Bridges that uses
trusses are called “ Truss bridge “ There are several types of trusses used in bridge design.
Warren Truss
Howe Truss
Pratt Truss
K- Truss
Finally we can understand that the fact congruence figures are commonly seen in nature or
surroundings. Congruence triangles are well used in the construction of different works. It gives an
aesthetic view of mathematics subject and it reveals the application of mathematics.
In conclusion, the study on congruence of triangles unveils its wide ranging applications in our
daily lives. Congruence is a fundamental concept that empowers us to understand and manipulate our
physical and digital environments more effectively. By appreciating the practical significance of
congruence, we can enhance problem- solving abilities and foster innovation across various fields.
