Exemplary cover letter

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my interest in the Maintenance and Facilities Team Micro-Placement that you
have advertised. As a current University of Suffolk student studying Computing, I am excited to apply
for this opportunity as it aligns perfectly with my skills and interests.

I am particularly drawn to this role as it requires a data analyst or someone with a business bias, as it
fits into building a business case for software used. My experience in [insert any relevant experience]
has given me a strong understanding of data analysis and business operations, and I am confident
that I would be able to make a valuable contribution to the team.

I understand that the role involves scoping how the company currently uses its CAFM system and
identifying ways to better utilize the software. I am excited about the opportunity to dive into this
task and come up with creative solutions to improve the system's functionality. In particular, I am
interested in exploring ways to categorize priority of works, identifying areas of the system that are
not being used to their full potential, and finding ways to streamline workflow and processes through
technology.

I am a quick learner and I am confident that I will quickly become familiar with the company's
systems and software. I am also an excellent communicator, which will enable me to effectively
collaborate with my team and support the business.

Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my
qualifications further and how I can contribute to your team.

Additionally, I am excited about the opportunity to gain real-world experience and apply my
theoretical knowledge in a professional setting. I am confident that this micro-placement will not
only provide me with valuable skills but also give me a deeper understanding of the industry.

I am also excited about the opportunity to work with the Maintenance and Facilities Team and
contribute to the ongoing success of the company. I understand the importance of maintaining and
managing facilities and I am eager to be a part of the team that keeps things running smoothly.

I am available to start the micro-placement immediately and I am willing to work the 30 hours per
week as specified in the job description. I am also flexible with my schedule and am willing to work
around the team's needs.

Thank you again for considering my application. I look forward to hearing from you and discussing
how I can contribute to the Maintenance and Facilities Team.

Sincerely, [Your Name]

Exemplary cover letter

Dear Hiring Manager,

I wish to apply for a placement that has been enlisted on the BT Apprentices website. Please
find enclosed my CV for your consideration.
As you can see from my attached CV, I have recently completed my GCSE’s and I am
predicted to achieve 4A*s in my A-Level subjects which I believe I can put to practical use in
this role.
This position particularly interests me because of my keen interest in Statistics and
Mathematics. During my studies, I researched topics such as probability theory, time series,
and linear regression which helped build my knowledge around the use of descriptive
statistics. I’m especially drawn to how it enables data to be presented in a meaningful way.
This is due to how the process of data analysis allows for an informed conclusion to be made
after applying statistical techniques and making inferences on the relations studied.
In my own time I have been interested in furthering my knowledge and skills concerning
analytics. For example, I have completed numerous online courses by edX, learning about
statistical inference and modelling techniques that can be applied to the fields of data
management and exploration. I gained an understanding about advanced concepts, such as
confidence intervals and association tests, which can be applied to real life scenarios. In
addition, I am currently reading ‘Data Analytics Made Accessible’ by Anil Maheshwari which
has provided a concrete platform for discovering new insights and ideas through the
wholeness of Data Analytics. Alongside this, I am working to develop basic programming
skills in languages such as SQL, Python and R. I have also used software tools such as MySQL
and Microsoft Power BI to create projects and for learning tutorials.
I see this role as the perfect position for me to make the most of my passion and curiosity
about data, and to also build the foundations for a successful career in the Analytics
industry. Despite my limited work experience, I believe my eagerness to learn, coupled with
my problem-solving skills and attention to detail will help BT build upon their reputation as
being the largest provider of fiber broadband and mobile services in the UK.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully
Aidan Thompson
