Times have changed. I have seen a big difference in the way my father manages his work at his bank.
Physical paperwork has been replaced by digital documents. Thousands of manual entries are now
finished within minutes using computers. Even with a huge inflow of customers at his bank, I see my
father more composed and confident and he has more leisure time for his friends and family.
Clearly, technology has brought up significant pace and grace in his world. These observations made
me realize the gravity of employing technology in every organization in order to excel in the ever
challenging and competitive prospect of growing economies. My career goal is to work as a Business
Analyst with companies like Deloite, where I want to leverage technology and use it to increase
business and productivity using their data. With a view towards such a goal in getting technical
expertise in the field of IT and Business Analytics, I wish to pursue Masters in Business Analytics from
University of Massachusetts Boston.
My inclination to explore this thirst of data and to be able to understand technology even more got
me into the field of Information Technology Engineering in the reputed Mumbai University. As I got
involved in the academics of my course, I knew I had taken the most accurate decision of my life. I
learned languages like C, C++, Java, Python and SQL during my 4-year degree at St. Johns College of
Engineering and Technology. I got knowledge of subjects like Cloud Computing, Data Structure and
Algorithm Analysis, Object Oriented Programming, Big Data Analytics, Data Mining and Business
Intelligence, etc. that helped me strengthen my technical background at the same time increasing
my interest in the field of Analytics.
Being interested in analytics allowed me to take up the project of titled “Key aggregate
Cryptosystem for Scalable Data Sharing in Cloud Storage” in the 3rd year of my term with a team size
of only 2. Being a small group, it helped me realize time management, improving my research skill as
the only one doing most of the research, pressure handling and working odd hours to complete my
project. I worked on development of the Architecture of Cloud Environment, carried out Encryption
and Decryption Algorithm on fragile data, developed Interface for user for file sharing, upload,
download and retrieval over cloud, how large amount of data could be transferred safely over cloud.
It gave me experience in working with huge amount of data, the discrepancies and challenges along
with the need to encrypt it. I have attended seminars on Python Development in the 2nd year of my
term that helped me understand the new language and helped me perceive an emerging new easier
language.
My job as a JDE System Architect from October 2016, as a JDE Technical Solution Architect in Larsen
and Toubro helped me understand how an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system works. My
responsibilities include deploying specs on servers, server design and architecture, troubleshooting
and debugging on Production issues, managing services in JDE as well as 3rd party tools like DSI,
Insight, SCOM, etc. JDE handles data for finance, consumer goods, human resources, distribution
and manufacturing sectors. Having experience as a Developer in this ERP system boosted my
understanding of the deep ends of a huge system carrying the data of an entire firm. Since I wanted
to learn even more about the system, I went on to have experience as a Configurable Network
Computing (CNC) resource. It further helped me learn how does the client-server architecture works
on various hardware, operating systems and hardware platforms. I have also been involved in
preparing the metrics for the same project wherein I have been using Tableau as a tool to extract
data to prepare charts for presentation. I also have extracted data through IRIS (servicenow.com),
wherein I mastered the different ways to segregate data, interpret and present it in a meaningful
format. This experience along with a blend of multicultural environment from the US, Europe and
India, has trained me in handling customers from all around the world which I am keen on using in
my future encounters.
Apart from Academics, I have also been involved in extracurricular activities like Events for the IEEE
commitee in College and debate, singing, dancing, drawing, handwriting and crafting competitions
since school. I have received awards for Singing, Debate, Impromptu speech and dancing
performances during school and inter-school festivals. I also have been involved in outdoor games
like Throw ball, Cricket, Badminton and activities like mountain trekking and hiking. My love for
Crafts is never ending, it is scientifically proven to help decision making abilities and problem-solving
skills.
Post MS, I would like to build my career at an organization driven by innovation, operating in the
engineering or technology domain. My short-term goal will be to establish myself in this field by
working as a Consultant/Senior Analyst/Strategy Manager at organizations like Deloite Consulting,
Amazon, Google, etc. and focus on technical innovations to improve business processes. This
experience will aid me to achieve my long-term goal of becoming the CEO of a tech company to
guide them in helping the society via technology.
Master’s in Business Analytics will provide me with a wide range of knowledge on subjects that will
further allow me to contribute fairly to the industry. The course will help me learn how to apply my
analytical skills in real-world projects, understand Big Data, Data Mining on large data applications
and much more. Having gained a good 2.5+ years’ experience in the field of Data and Technology, I
now want to further increase my potential with this Master’s degree. Analytics of Big Data really
draws my atention, as we know this is the future of data and I want to be ready when I am
presented with such an opportunity. Social media and Psychology have always been my low-key
interest subjects as they involve data extraction and making sense of it and presenting it to the
whole world. I have been researching about them for as long as I can remember. With this Masters
course, I will be able to learn to utilize large volumes of data using languages like R and Python. I
want to enhance my programming skills with the understanding that takes to make decisions for
huge firms based on the information extracted using various tools used in this program. This
program will help me to achieve my goals for understanding and being able to manage large
volumes of data and help organizations in increasing their business.
University of Massachusetts Boston is the best possible place to meet my requirements. From the
perfect geography and weather, I am sure it will provide me comfort in a place very far away from
my home. With professors Ramakrishna Ayyagari, Jeffery Keisler and Nelson Velez I am sure to
receive world class education looking at their experiences and great work at the University. It will be
a once in a lifetime achievement for a student like me to be a part of your reputed university for the
Master’s program so as to flourish myself and make the best of it. With the guidance of respected
and well renowned professors, an extensive array of laboratories, and various other facilities, I can
benefit myself in all sorts and prosper. A top-notch program, a pathway for innovation and a
provision for interdisciplinary education, simply clarifies all doubts over the credibility of your
university to provide me with the best education.
I am sure my zeal towards the Business Analytics course and my past experiences in programming,
mathematics and on-hand experience gained in the implementation of projects have prepared me to
flourish in a multinational university’s academic curriculum and contribute my bit towards this field.
