The rules governing the admissions shall be as per Cotton University Ph.D. Regulations together
with the current UGC regulations for ““Minimum
Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil/
M
PhD Degrees,” notified vide F. No. 1-3/2021(QIP) of the Gazette of India dated 7 November 2022.
Eligibility Criteria and Selections procedure:
(i) A Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC recognised University with at least 55% marks in
aggregate or its equivalent grade
grade, in a subject related to the Ph.D. discipline where applying. Those
otherwise eligible vide Section 3 of the UGC notification notified vide F. No. 1-3/2021(QIP)
shall also be eligible to apply.
(ii) A relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade,, from the requirement of (i)
above, shall be applicable to candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ Differently-Abled
Differently and such
other categories as specified in case of admission in an institution under Government of Assam.
(iii) While determining the eligibil
eligibility of a candidate subject to conditions (i) and (ii) above, grace marks
or points awarded in the qualifying examination, if any, shall not be counted.

(iv) Selections will be via an MCQ/OMR based Entrance Test of 70 marks followed by Viva-voce
of 30 marks, to be held separately for each Department/Discipline. There will w be negative marking
in the MCQ/OMR based entrance test for every wrong response, equivaalent to 25% of what is
awarded for a correct ressponse. The minimum qualifying marks in the Entrance Test is 35 for

general category and 32 for reserved category candidates. Final selection will be in order of merit
based on the total of the marks obtained iin the Entrance Test and Viva-voce.
Viva
(v) The Entrance Test syllabus shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be
subject specific. Question

requisite knowledge required for research in the concerned subject/disccipline.
(vi) Candidates who had cleared NET or SLET in the related discipline within a period of two years
preceding the date of this notification may be eligible for a 5 per cent relaxation of qualifying
marks in the Entrance Testt.
(vii) Candidates who have qualified for fellowship/ scholarship in UGC-NET/
NET/ UGC-CSIR
UGC NET/
GATE/ CEED and similar National level tests may be allowed to appear in the viva-voce/
interview irrespective of their performance in the Entrance Test and in their cases the selection
will be on the basis of viva

(viii) The number of seats available for each Department/discipline will depend on permissible limits of
the research scholars that can be assigned to a Guide and other relevant parameters on the date of
viva-voce.. The University reserves the right not to fill up any vacant seat if suitable candidates are
not found.

Scholars must comply with the conditions of the PhD
Ph programme.
Attendance of PhD Coursework classes is compulsory for all Research Scholars
Scholar and one with
attendance less than 75% of total classes held in the concerned Department/Faculty shall be
debarred from appearing in the PhD Coursew
Coursework Examination.

Application may only be submitted ONLINE through the University admission portal
https://admissions.cottonuniversity.ac.in from 28 June 2023 onwards.
