Kiln Dried Lumber

Our kiln dried lumber is dried using (160F) or better for a minimum of 14 days to ensure that we kill off
any bugs, insects, eggs, bug larvae, mold, and fungi. This results in a product that lasts quite a bit longer
as well as providing a stronger work piece.
The above picture on the left shows just a small amount of the dead bugs and insects that pours out of
the kiln.

The above picture on the right shows another example of bugs larva and insects purged from the
vacuum kiln.

We use a Vacuum kiln to dry in order to produce a better quality product sucking the moisture from the
core and coupling that with heat makes for a faster more efficient kiln drying.

No chemicals used in our process as the high heat does all of the sanitization.

High heat dries out any resins contained in the wood.

Kiln drying takes a few weeks or less to dry depending on species, thickness, and current moisture
content.

Kiln dried wood dries more uniformly in a closed chamber

Kiln dried lumber tends to be far lighter and easy to work with.

Kiln drying prevents the wood from warping or cracking more over time and adding to the durability

Can finish kiln dried wood much faster and easier

Minimizes defects.

Air Dried lumber

Doesn’t kill off any bugs, insects, eggs, larvae, mold, fungi, and other infestations which could either
further the infestation as well as introduce the infestation to your home.

Takes years to air dry lumber correctly

Typically needs to be treated chemically to increase its lifespan

Resins inside wood are naturally runny and in more of a liquid form which pose problems throughout
the existence of the product.

Air dried wood hold pockets of higher moisture throughout the piece and throughout the core leaving
the edges dry and letting you think its dry and creating several issues while finishing.

Kiln Drying uses one or more of the many types of drying techniques each having pros and cons. Air and
solar being cheaper but taking years to accomplish anymore than surface drying. Convention and other
kilns are extremely expensive and require years of training and experience.

Utilizing a state of the art Vacuum Kiln we can choose to dry immediately after the tree being cut and
milled down which can take 3 to 6 months in the kiln or the recommended drying process which takes a
fraction of the time in the kiln. IF YOU AIR DRY YOUR LUMBER IT MAY SEEM DRY ON THE SURFACE
AFTER A YEAR BUT DEPENDING ON SPECIES AND DIMENSIONS IT MAY BE STILL WET AT ITS CORE IN
CERTAIN AREAS TYPICALLY KNOTS. THE AIR DRYING PROCESS TAKE YEARS TO COMPLETE IN MOST
APPLICATIONS. COLDER CLIMATES TAKE EVEN LONGER.

OUR RECOMMENDED DRYING PROCESS

WET WOOD - We use take log and let it sit for specific amount of time after being harvested to allow it
to naturally acclimate being as it is usually 100% moisture content.

FRESH CUT WOOD - we mill the log into slabs, beams, stickers, dimensional lumber, or anything the
customer requests. At this point moisture content is at 50% to 100%

AIR DRIED WOOD - After milling we let the lumber air dry for a recommended 12 to 18 months (more or
less dependent on species). During this time moisture content is typically

At this point typically the lumber should be around 25% to 35% and it is now good to go in the Vacuum
Kiln where it will dry for typically 14 days.

During this process the vacuum kiln uses a fluctuation in heat coupled with vacuum pressure and
forward/reversing fans to evenly dry, and condition the wood on a day by day basis.

ROOM DRIED WOOD - At the end of the cycle or kiln schedule we let the wood slowing acclimate to
normal temps and humidity. At this point it is ready for woodworking. Room moisture content can
usually be between 8% to 12%

Ideal moisture content for 6% to 8% for interior woods and 9% to 14% for exterior woods or building
envelope components.

COMPLETELT DRIED WOOD - 0% moisture content will acclimate to whatever room it sits in.

Kiln Dried Firewood

Do not have to store outside due to bugs, fungus, mold or other infestations

Ready to burn since little to no moisture

Less mess due to very little moisture content and less bark for indoor storage

Cleaner burn because it produces less creosote, in turn leads to less chimney problem.

Produces less smoke when burning.
