Natasha’s answer
During Covid-19 pandemic, all the students and teachers faced with a new learning system
where they did their T&L online. During this period, I teach my students through several
platforms such as Telegram, Whatsapp, Google Meet and Zoom Meeting. All these platforms
really help teachers to communicate with students better and through these platforms enhance
their teaching in terms of mastering the computer skills. I choose the listed platforms because of
its convenience and accessibility for everyone (both teacher and students). These platforms
mentioned are the popular platforms for teaching and learning in an online classroom during
Covid-19 pandemic.
I have ample experience in dealing with this online teaching during Covid-19 pandemic which
brings some advantages and also its disadvantages. First of all, the advantage of online
teaching is that teachers are flexible to be more creative in adapting online materials because
they can easily find it through the Internet. Furthermore, another advantage is that students can
learn their lesson through asynchronous video provided by their teacher in which the video can
be accessed anytime and anywhere. However, the disadvantage of online teaching during this
pandemic is students might feel bored and easily exhausted with excessive online learning as
both of their mind and body are forced to the gadgets that can affect their physical and mental
health. Another disadvantage, the exposure of too much screen during online learning will make
the students’ communication limited as they only interacted with their teacher and classmates
through online platforms and not face to face.
Besides, I do faced some difficulties in handling my students with online learning from my
personal experience. One of the difficulties is I could not keep track with my students as easy
like face to face interaction. This can be proved during my online teaching of English subject
where some of my students didn’t really understand a certain topic and I have to comprehend
and repeat it many times before I can move on to the next lesson activity. Besides, another
difficulty is teacher could not teach the students freely like before (face to face classroom)
because the interaction between the teacher and students are limited with the online situation in
which they did their learning through online platforms.
Despite the difficulties, I tried to come up with a better solution to create a more fun and
interesting online learning for my students in which I have implemented and provided various
types of attractive teaching materials during the online learning session. For example, the
popular online quizzes, Kahoot and Wordwall. My students really enjoyed answering the
questions on Kahoot and Wordwall as both of these teaching materials offered them fun
elements and interactive activities that can improve their thinking skills.
Overall, even though online learning can be a bit of an obstacle for everyone, but my students
are all being cooperative and motivated to learn English language in an online classroom.
Moreover, my students even show their full commitment by always attending my online lesson
during this Covid-19 pandemic.
