OPERATIONS/TECHNICAL PLAN

A. Product Design & Development (concept selection; product comparators if any;

patent concerns; changes/trends in customer needs; future product

improvements) (Venus)

The conceptualizing of the product was agreed by the group and was

designed with portability in mind. At the same time, the product would still be

effective to be used in public areas and in private.

Similar patents are found, however, there are no patents that provide the

accurate definitions and specifications that the group has made. Here are some

of the similar patents:

Infrared technology has already been utilized for measuring temperature

(2010, CN103282753B). The technology comprises a portable infrared array

sensor that measures temperature through pixel units, which is controlled by the

array module. Then, it displays the temperature of the subject or a target area.

Thermal image sensor and air conditioner (2015, CN108981932B) is an

invention that provides infrared detection which outputs an image. Based on the

thermal result, air conditioner temperature is then adjusted. However, the

apparatus is disclosed on how much activity of a person in a room is measured

by the thermal sensor.

A portable room air purifier (1994, US5435817A) has a compact

technology that allows air purification through an internal filter element. Air is

taken by an internal fan and passes through at least one arcuate scroll and
surrounding deflector. The purifier automatically turns off in case of

internal/external damages or removal of the filter module.

Portable air puifier with air quality detection function (2014,

CN104147718A) has an air quality detection module that allows adjustments to

be made to the air purifier. This enables consumers to visually see through the

detection module on how clean the nearby air. The air purifier unit includes a

high efficiency particulate air filter, ultraviolet lamp, active carbon net, nano

photo-catylic net, and formaldehyde filter screen.

There would be a lot of possible changes that could be done in the

product, and that depends on the feedback of the customers. The group would

collect feedback and reviews from the customers and create a better and

improved product. .

B. Product Standards (Complete Product Specifications - final product 3D drawing,

product dimensions and tolerances, assembly drawing or exploded view,

schematic or wiring layout if any or needed, module drawings, packaging & user

instructions, and Bill of Materials) (Trapila)

For easier use, the air purifier with thermal scanner will be powered by a

type-c usb, while for an innovative and futuristic look, it has a slim profile. The

product must be as lightweight as possible in order for it to be compact. It will be

used in public areas such as malls and schools; it can also be used inside the

homes of consumers at the same time. It functions like a temperature scanner in

the front; at the back will be an air purifier which would clean the area. There is

also an LCD on the package which provides details about the air quality in the

area. The exhaust vent that emits filtered air will be on top. The product will only

be accessible in gray or white color as of the original concept. The controls for

the product and its entry vent, will be on its side. There will be controls as follows:

1. A power button which will turn the product on/off.

2. An automatic option will trigger the air purifier on its own, which

would automatically purify whenever toxic air or low air quality is

detected.

3. A mode function that requires the purifier either to run at such an

interval or continuously is also found.

4. A body temperature button which enables the front of the product to

monitor the temperature through the use of its own thermal

scanner.

The performance of the product is easy to fix within 10 to 15 minutes in an

area. The product will be mounted on a wall; for soft or hard wall use. The

product dimensions are 550mm in height, 330 mm in base, and 185mm in width.

C. Manufacturing Operations (Process Standards for reproducibility – assembly

process chart; process flow chart; and production layout showing material flow,

equipment & fixtures, and DL & IL manpower complement; and production rates

per day or month) (Meneses, Trapila)

Production Rate

A!rBlue has 50 machines available and properly working for unit

production. With a total of 50 hours of labor every week, 2,500 units of the air

purifier with thermal scanner will be manufactured. With this, the monthly

production rate of the air purifier with thermal scanner will be 10,000 per month

using 200 hours of labor per month.

D. Product Distribution (handling, packaging, labeling, delivery scheme;

instruction manual, brochure, maintenance or user guide) (Venus)

The business is very particular to make sure that the product would be

handled and packed carefully to avoid any faulty damage while inside the box or

when shipped during distribution. The product should be handled with care, since

the plastic material of the product could break if it is dropped 3 feet or more.
The box design of the product would not be too large from the product

size, since a larger box could mean that the contents could easily move inside.

Inside the box, the product would be placed right side up so that the boxes could

be stored efficiently. A soft fiber cloth would be wrapped to the product, along

with a plastic protective adhesive on its screen to protect from scratches. Bubble

wraps would also be utilized since it is effective packing material, at the same

time it is less expensive compared to foam materials.

Product labelling would ideally be done in a minimalistic manner in order

to have the product a modernistic approach and to have a good aesthetic. The

labels would be understandable and readable but it would not be redundant. The

buttons of the product as well would be labelled large enough so that the

customer could easily identify which controls are which.

The delivery scheme that the business has is done through online selling

platforms like Lazada and Shoppee. Once the order has been purchased, the

business would either deliver the product to a nearby distribution center of the

courier, or have the courier pick the product from the group’s warehouse. It

depends on the quantity that is being purchased online. The shipment of the

product would vary on the customer’s location (takes 1-3 days in NCR, 4-14 days

on other locations). It would also vary on weather conditions during shipment.

However, product mishandling is common during shipment of products. The

group makes sure that on their side, sufficient packing materials would be used

in order for the product to arrive safely to the customers. The group would also
take note of customer feedback especially on the product reviews such that there

would be changes and improvements to be implemented.

The maintenance of the product requires cleaning of the air filter for the

purifier, ideally once a month to maintain its optimal operation. Cleaning the

sensor of the thermal scanner should be done daily to avoid the decrease of the

reading range of the sensor and to maintain accurate temperature readings. A

simple instruction would be printed on a small piece of paper that could help the

consumer identify the controls of the product. Here is a sample of the

instruction/manual/user guide that would be provided along with the product.

E. Office, Physical Plant and Warehouse Facilities (assume purchase of land &

construction of facilities that will form part of start-up capital and will become the

part of the depreciation schedule)

F. Business Processes (flow chart of transactions for in-house and outsourced

activities, such as but not limited to sales, purchases, material issuances,

production scheduling, tolling, subcontracting, security, janitorial services, etc.;

indicate names of suppliers, partners, promoters, outlets, etc.)

G. Product Costing (must include direct materials, direct labor and variable

overhead costs)

a. First, compute the daily production capacity requirement by dividing the

biggest of the 5-year sales projections by 12 months then by 20 days to

determine the man-machine requirements to produce the required daily

production and the corresponding space, flow and layout requirements.

b. Ensure completeness of Bill of Materials including packaging and manuals

and then compute the DM cost per unit.

c. Determine manning complement for the production line - machine

operators, assemblers and packers and compute DL cost per unit by

getting the total labor expenses (after multiplying # of men by the

respective labor rates) and then dividing it by daily production rate.

d. Compute the FOH cost per unit with the following steps:

1. Assign personnel for production supervision, quality inspection,

material issuance / warehouse operations, FG handling / storage

activities, and machine maintenance. Compute indirect labor costs

per unit by multiplying # of men by the respective labor rates per

day, the total of which will be divided by the daily production rate in

units.

2. Determine operating requirements (water & electricity, fuel & oil,

supplies and other utilities) and compute other indirect costs per
unit by determining the 8-hour operating costs per day and dividing

it by the daily production rate in units.

3. Add up the Indirect Labor and Other Costs per unit (item II.G.4a +

item II.G.4b)
