Quantitative Method

This document contains information about calculating various statistical measures including range, percentiles, quartiles, inter-quartile range, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation from data sets. It provides examples of calculating the median, mean, and standard deviation from population data grouped by age and gender. The final section notes that standard deviation is an absolute measure of dispersion while coefficient of variation is a relative measure used to compare variability between distributions.

Standard deviation=

(B) Both the quartile deviation and standard deviation measure the degree of disperion in a data set
Quartile deciation indivates how widely spread are the middle 50% of the data
Standard deviation is an indication of the spread around the mean
In both case, the bigger the value, the more soread is the data

Population standard deviation=

Absolute measure of dispersion

Eg: standard deviation is used to measure the degree of dispersion sithin a series or a distribution

Relative measure of dispersion

Eg: coefficient of variation is used to compare the variability between two or more different distributions.
