ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM IN ENGLISH

Introduction

Reading is a skill many people take for granted, but the act of reading and properly comprehending a

text is a complex and interactive process. It requires several different brain functions to work together and

most often requires one to puzzle through multiple layers of context and meaning. Reading enables students

to generate ideas based from what they got from the text. It helps you to discover new things by enabling you

to educate yourself in any area of life you are interested in and to do your own research and thinking and it

also helps develop the mind and imagination and the creative side of a person.

Rationale:

The proposed Enhancement Program in Reading Comprehension was based from their level of

comprehension in reading. The enhancement program caters the students under the grade level of 10 who

have an appallingly low level of reading comprehension and so there is a need to enhance their ability to

understand texts. The enhancement program is intended for at least 1 semester. The program is composed of

4 sessions for each quarter according to the teacher’s preference. The entire program is divided into 3 parts;

(1) Objectives (2) Content and Activities (3) Discovery Task/Individual Enrichment. This aims to create an

outline in teaching literature applying the Dynamic Learning Instruction.

General Objective:

The primary goal of this program is to enhance student’s reading comprehension with different literary

texts and activities to strengthen their understanding of the texts. In addition, it is aimed to develop the

students’ independent learning and critical thinking skills. At the end of the program, the students are

expected to have mastered the content of the literature in all forms.
