PASEO DE ILOILO

-Iloilo

Paseo de Iloilo is a captivating folk dance originating from the province of Iloilo
in the Philippines. The dance is characterized by graceful and synchronized
movements of couples, inspired by the elegant Spanish courtship tradition. With
its lively music and intricate footwork, Paseo de Iloilo is a delightful sight to
behold, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and artistic expression of the
Filipino people.

Costume:

• Female dancers wear long dresses with wide skirts and puffed sleeves, often in bright
colors or floral prints.

• Male dancers wear barong Tagalog and black pants.

Music:

• Paseo de Iloilo is usually danced to the traditional music of Iloilo, which features a
combination of indigenous and Spanish influences.

• The music is typically played on a banduria (a small guitar-like instrument), a violin,


and a guitar, with percussion provided by tambourines and drums.

• Composed of four parts: A, B, C and D.


Count:

• One, two, three to a measure.

Formation:

• Partners face each other about six feet apart. Girl stands the right side of partner when
facing audience.
• The dance is typically performed in a circular formation, with dancers facing inward.

• The formation may also shift and change throughout the dance, with dancers moving
in and out of smaller groups or pairs.
