Spelling Learning শেখার জন্য আমাদের প্রথদম যা প্রদ াজন্ হদে তা হদে Syllable. সুতরাাং আমরা
এখন্ Syllable সম্পদকে জান্দো।

What is a syllable?

• A syllable is a part of a word that contains a single vowel sound and that is
pronounced as a unit-

একটি Word এর শযিুকু অাংে একোদর উচ্চারণ করা যা , ততিুকু অাংেদক এক ১টি Syllable ো েব্দাংে েদে
।

শযমন্ :

River = Ri + ver .Farmer = Far+mer . Mother = Mo + ther . Doctor = Doc + tor .

Syllable এর প্রকারদেে : Syllable ৪প্রকার ।

1. Monosyllable.

2. Di syllable.

3. Tri syllable.

4. Polysyllable.

1.Monosyllable : শয Word ো েদব্দ একটি মাত্র Syllable থাদক তাদক Monosyllable েদে ।

শযমন্ : Bat, Cat, Cup, Dog, Pot, Mat, Pen, Rat,Top ইতযাদে ।

2. Di syllable : শয Word ো েদব্দ েুইটি syllable থাদক তাদক Disyllable েদে ।

শযমন্ :

Brother = Bro + ther, Mother = Mo + ther

Doctor = Doc + tor, Baby = Ba + by,

3. Trisyllable : শয Word ো েদব্দ দতন্টি syllable থাদক তাদক Trisyllable েদে ।

শযমন্ :

Beautiful = Beau + ti + ful

Company = Com + pa + ny

Saturday = Sa + tur + day

Yesterday = Yes + ter + day

Umbrella = Um + bre + lla


4. Polysyllable : শয Word ো েদব্দ দতন্টির শেেী syllable থাদক তাদক Polysyllableেদে ।

শযমন্ :

Examination = Exa + mi + na + tion, Comparative = Com + pa + ra + tive

Reciprocal = Re + cip + ro + cal, Satisfaction = Sa + tis + fac + tion

University = U + ni + ver + sity

Why Syllables Are Important

• Syllables are the building blocks of words


(Syllable হদে েব্দ ততদরর কাঠাদমা)

• Long words can be broken into syllables (small speech sounds)

• Knowing how to divide words into syllables can help:

(েব্দদক দসদেেযাদে শেদে উচ্চারন্ করার সুদেধাগুদোোঃ)

o improve reading skills (দরদ াং পড়ার েক্ষতা েৃদ্ধি পাদে)


o pronounce new, hard words & names (কটঠন্ েব্দগুদো উচ্চারণ করা সহজ হদে)
o spell words correctly (েদব্দর উচ্চারণ সটঠক হদে)
Examples:

• Breaking “environmental” into syllables can help you read & pronounce it:
o En-vi-ron-men-tal

Syllable Division Rules


❖ Separate prefixes and suffixes from root words.
(মূে েব্দ শথদক দপ্রদিক্স এোং সাদিক্স শক আোো কদর উচ্চারণ করা যা )
o examples: pre-view, work-ing, end-less, & out-ing

❖ Are two (or more) consonants next to each other?


(পাোপাদে েুদিা কন্দসান্যান্ট থাকদে তাদের আোো কদর উচ্চারণ করা যা )
শযমন্োঃ
o Divide between the 1 and 2 consonants.

▪ examples: buf-fet, des-sert, ob-ject, ber-ry, & pil-grim
o Never split 2 consonants that make only 1 sound when pronounced together
and aren't the same letter (i.e., 'ff').
(যদে েুদিা কন্দসান্যান্ট একই উচ্চারণ শে তাহদে আোো কদর উচ্চারণ করা যাদে ন্া)
▪ examples: th(ে,থ), sh(ে), ph(ি), ch(চ, ), & wh(হ)

❖ Is the consonant surrounded by vowels?


(যখন্ কন্দসান্যান্ট এর েু পাদে োওদ ে থাদক)
o Does the vowel have a long sound? (Like the 'i' in line)
(োওদ দের উচ্চারণ যদে েীর্ েহ তদে,)
▪ Divide before the consonant.
(কন্দসান্যাদন্টর পূদে েোগ করদত হদে)
▪ examples: ba-by, re-sult, i-vy, fro-zen, & Cu-pid
o Does the vowel have a short sound? (Like the 'i' in mill)
(োওদ দের উচ্চারণ যদে েীর্ েন্া হ তদে,)
▪ Divide after the consonant.
(কন্দসান্যাদন্টর পর োেদত হদে)
▪ examples: met-al, riv-er, mod-el, val-ue, & rav-age

❖ Does the word end with 'ckle'?


(শয সকে েদব্দর শেদে ckle থাদক,)
o Divide right before the 'le.'
(শসগুদো শকেে le শক আোো করদত হদে)
o examples: tack-le, freck-le, tick-le, & buck-le
❖ Does the word end with 'le' (not 'ckle')?
(শয সকে েদব্দর শেদে le থাদক,)
o Is the letter before the 'le' a consonant?
(শসগুদো পূদেরে কন্দসান্যান্ট সহ le শক আোো করদত হদে)
▪ Divide 1 letter before the 'le.'
▪ examples: ap-ple, rum-ble, fa-ble, & ta-ble

Examples:
• little: lit - tle
• petal: pet - al
• turtle: tur - tle
• ankle: an - kle
• riddle: rid - dle
• arrow: ar - row
• nickel: nick - el
• cotton: cot - ton
• student: stu - dent
• teacher: teach - er
• children: chil - dren
• pottery: pot - ter - y
• learning: learn - ing
• textbook: text - book
• watching: watch - ing
• screaming: scream - ing
• misbehaving: mis - be - hav - ing
