The "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" is an important period for the rapid development of my country's
medical and health services. The country has successively issued a number of policies to
encourage and support the development of the medical industry, ushering in a small peak in the
construction of hospitals at all levels. The case shared with you today is "Wenzhou People's
Hospital Louqiao New Hospital " . It is a river course, the north side of which is the main road of
the city, and the main entrance is set.
The architectural scheme design of " Wenzhou People's Hospital Louqiao New Hospital " won
the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" National Top Ten Hospital Architectural Design Scheme Award.

Planning objectives
The project is a large-scale medical building located in the "Central District of Ouhai". While
satisfying the functional attributes, it should strengthen the uniqueness and development unity of
the building. The planning goal of this case is to create a large-scale medical building with
reasonable functions, coherent development and unique image.

Design Concept
1. The intensiveness of the architectural composition improves the efficiency of land use, ensures
the convenience of medical procedures and the ecology of the environmental landscape.
2. Continuity of development. With the rapid development of the hospital, the integrity of the
first-phase buildings is guaranteed, and the perfect overlap of the second-phase buildings in
terms of function and form is considered to form a seamless hospital-wide plan.
3. Diversity in environmental shaping. Through the positioning of the general plan, a large area
of green space is left on the west and southeast sides of the land, water is diverted to build a lake
and a sunken square is introduced to make the external landscape full of vitality. There is an
atrium inside the building and a courtyard on the side of the main street. , the interior space
permeates nature.
4. The uniqueness of the architectural image. The building skin is arranged in dislocation by
squares to produce a complex sense of rhythm, giving people a distinctive skin texture. The
building body is cut in large pieces to form a rich form with changes in unity .

Facing the tight land use, we compared various schemes and finally determined the layout of this
case. Comprehensively considering the north entrance, the river on the west side, the intersection
at the northwest corner, and the needs of the second-phase development, the plan divides the
land into three sections, the upper, middle and lower sections, which are respectively used as the
square in front of the courtyard, the first-phase building and the reserved land for the second-
phase development . The first phase of the building is located in the east of the central part,
giving way to the riverside landscape on the west side. As a hospital cultural corridor, the
infection building is located in the northeast corner to avoid the influence of the dominant wind
direction throughout the year on the main building, and at the same time, the perspective of the
northwest corner will not be too large. See separate Infection Building. The main building of the
first phase is set along the east side, and the development of the second phase is located at the
southwest corner. The two main buildings are shifted in the northeast direction, leaving a green
space center in the southeast corner to ensure that the second main building has a good view of
the southeast corner. , and at the same time establish a good architectural image for the
intersection at the northwest corner.

There are four entrances and exits in this case. The main entrance is located on the north side.
Motor vehicles enter and exit from the right, and directly enter the outpatient hall on the
basement floor. Passengers will be sent to the lobby on the first floor by the escalator. People and
vehicles are arranged in layers to avoid the situation of mixed ground traffic. The emergency
entrance is set on the east side, and the social parking lot along the river can be used to park for
medical treatment conveniently. The hospital entrance and administrative office entrance are set
on the south side, and the administrative office entrance is set independently to divert the traffic
pressure in the site. Ground parking and underground ramps are set at each entrance to reduce
the interference of people and vehicles in the hospital. Through the above design, the ground
transportation of large hospitals can be purified, and a comfortable and convenient medical
treatment and working environment can be created.
Landscape Planning
There are good landscape resources around the site. Through intensive composition and making
full use of external landscape conditions, there is a green belt along the river on the west side,
which is connected with the waterscape, and a hospital cultural corridor is set up. Through the
staggered setting of the main building, the southeast corner forms the central green space of the
whole courtyard, diverting water to build a lake, and enlivening the landscape level. The
northwest side has a lower square and commercial buildings. The combination of the two forms a
relatively independent commercial area. The building is hollowed out to form a terrace greening,
and the roof greening is set up to create a space greening system, so that the building and the
environment can penetrate each other, and create a medical atmosphere in the scenery of the
building and the pedestrian scene.

The development of the hospital is changing with each passing day. This case fully considers the
needs of the development of the hospital, leaving room for development on the south side of the
site, and temporarily setting up administrative and teaching rooms in the southwest corner of the
first phase. In the future, it will be considered to move to the second phase of the building,
leaving space for the development of medical technology, and the second phase of construction
of administrative, teaching complex buildings and inpatient rehabilitation buildings. Through the
above settings, there is room for development of medical technology and hospitalization, and an
independent building for administration, teaching and duty. In terms of architectural form, the
integrity of the first phase and the unity of the first and second phases are fully considered.
Architectural modeling
The design takes the shape combination as the starting point, combined with special skin
treatment, to display a distinctive architectural image. The building adopts shape dislocation to
form overhead space and setback greening, and introduces a sunken square to produce virtual
and real interaction. Undulating architectural space. The design uses misplaced stone surfaces,
which give people a sense of complex rhythm, produce a facade form that makes people think,
and reflect the unique shape of Louqiao New Courtyard. The design adopts a simple approach,
actively uses modern materials, and introduces color blocks as active elements to express the
aesthetic principles of change in unity. The design adopts an integrated composition to shape the
integrity of the first phase of the building and the unity of the second phase of the building. The
design of this case takes the development of the main street as the criterion, uses the module
development as the means, and creates a Louqiao new campus of Wenzhou People's Hospital
with complete shape, coherent development, rich layers, unique image and elegant colors
through the staggered joint of the shape.

Wenzhou People’s Hospital is a Grade A hospital with strong comprehensive strength and
distinctive specialty characteristics that offers medical treatment, teaching, scientific research,
rehabilitation, prevention and health care services. Its predecessor, a hospital founded by the
Catholic Missionary of Charity, was opened in September, 1913. The Hospital was named the
Third People’s Hospital of Wenzhou in 1966. It became the first hospital in Wenzhou awarded
with the title of “Baby-friendly Hospital” by the World Health Organization in 1994. In 2000,
the Wenzhou municipal government approved the preparation of Wenzhou Obstetrics and
Gynecology Hospital. In 2003, under the approval of the then Zhejiang Provincial Health
Department, the Hospital and the Wenzhou Maternal and Child Health Center jointly launched
the Wenzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital, which is under the management of the same
leadership. In 2005, the Hospital and the Wenzhou Municipal Committee of Cadre Healthcare
jointly set up the Wenzhou Physical Examination Center. In 2008, the Hospital became the Third
School of Clinical Medicine of Wenzhou Medical University. In 2012, the Hospital passed the
review and evaluation for upgrading to a Grade A hospital in Zhejiang Province. In June, 2012,
the Hospital was renamed Wenzhou People’s Hospital. In 2015, the Sixth People’s Hospital of
Yueqing City, the Third People’s Hospital of Yongjia County and the People’s Hospital of
Taishun County were listed as the Hospital’s Yueqing Branch, Qiaotou Branch, and Taishun
Branch. Ten grassroots level hospitals including the Second People’s Hospital of Ouhai District
became core members of the medical conglomerate led by the hospital. Fifty-one grassroots level
community healthcare service centers including the Third People’s Hospital of Ouhai District
became “Extended Collaboration Units” of the hospital. In September, 2015, the Wenzhou
Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission approved the establishment of the

The Hospital has 1200 beds, 28 wards, 37 specialty departments and 11 medical technology
departments. Among its 2127 employees, 735 people are intermediate and senior professionals
including 225 holders of intermediate and senior academic titles. The Hospital has affiliates
including Wenzhou Physical Examination Center, Wenzhou Occupational Health Inspection and
Occupational Disease Diagnosis Center, Wenzhou In-hospital Infection Management
Improvement Center, Wenzhou Pathology Inspection Center, Wenzhou Maternity Medical
Quality Control Center, Wenzhou Children’s Listening Diagnosis and Treatment Center,
Wenzhou Neonatal Screening Center, Wenzhou High-risk Child Intervention Center, Wenzhou
Hemorrhage and Thrombotic Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, Wenzhou Family
Planning Technology Guidance Center, Wenzhou Reproductive Health Care Center, and the
first-class maternal and child health center, and child health center in the city. The Hospital is the
central hospital providing the green channel for traffic accident emergency and rescue.

The Hospital is characterized by featured disciplines and reasonable talent structure: the
discipline of Internal Medicine of Hematology is a provincial level key (supported) discipline of
Zhejiang Province. The Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology serve as the regional
specialty centers in southern Zhejiang. The disciplines of Gastroenterology and Gynecology are
key disciplines jointly constructed by Wenzhou and Zhejiang. The discipline groups of Perinatal
Medicine, Gastroenterology, Comfort Medicine, and Reproductive Medicine are Wenzhou
municipal key discipline groups. The disciplines of obstetrics and gynecology, gynecology,
internal medicine of hematology, cardiovascular medicine, general surgery, neurology,
anesthesiology, orthopedics, emergency medicine, children’s health, dentistry, stomatology,
urinary surgery, neonatal genetic disease screening, and ultrasound medicine are municipal key
disciplines of Wenzhou.

The Hospital has set clear near and long-term development goals with great prospects: the
maternal and child health care complex building that has been completed has a total construction
area of 41,000 square meters, which will greatly improve the hospital’s working environment
and service capacity. Being currently at the construction phase of interior decoration, the newly
built branch in Louqiao covers a land of 130 mu (approximately 86,667 square meters) and a
construction area of 120, 000 square meters and the approved capacity of 1000 beds. When
completed, the hospital will have more than 2000 beds, making it a real modern medical group.
