French Revolution

1) A messenger on horseback announces to a French village that King Louis XV has died and his grandson Louis XVI will inherit the throne, with Marie Antoinette as his queen. Robespierre objects to this. 2) By 1789, France is facing severe financial problems due to its support of the American Revolution. King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette are distressed over the nation's economic troubles. 3) Robespierre uses the growing discontent over financial problems and the monarchy's excesses to establish the radical Jacobin Club and launch the Reign of Terror, executing thousands who opposed the revolution, including the king and queen.

FRENCH VILLAGE-DAY

People are going about their day as usual. A horseback


messenger rides through, Monty python style, to deliver an
announcement.

MESSENGER
(He blows a trumpet to get
attention)
Hear ye! Hear ye!A message from
Versaille!
(he reads off a scroll)
“Le roi est mort, vive le roi! Our
king, Louis XV has died, His
grandson, Louis XVI is inheriting
the throne.”

PEASANTS
(Converses)

MESSENGER
“...And his wife, Marie Antoinette
shall be his queen”

ROBESPIERRE
(Shouting)
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS!!!!

CUT TO:
WHITE SCREEN

MONTY PYTHON-STYLE TEXT THAT SAYS "FRANCE: 1789"

NARRATOR
France, 1789. A nation of beauty,
elegance and–

KING LOUIS XVI


(cutting off narrator)
Severe financial problems!!!

NARRATOR
(Sarcastically/matter-of-fact
ly)
Yes, Louis, I was just about to
get to that…
FADE IN:
INT. PALACE OF VERSAILLE- DAY

KING LOUIS XVI and his wife MARIE ANTOINETTE are starring
in disbelief at a chart showing the French economy. They
are distressed. MARIE ANTOINETTE has her iconic hair boat
and an extravagant dress, clearly the money was taken out
of the economy..
MARIE ANTOINETTE
(In distress)
HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?!! OUR
ECONOMY WAS AMAZING!!!

KING LOUIS XVI


(sarcastically to his wife)
I wonder why!

MARIE ANTOINETTE

je ne sais pas ce qui se passe!!!

LOUIS XVI facepalms


LOUIS XVI
(Gesturing to her extravagant outfit.)
This is why the people call you
“Madame Deficit”!

LOUIS XVI and MARIE ANTOINETTE start arguing. It is just a


blur of words. NARRATOR is quick to cut them off.

NARRATOR
Break it up, you two.

LOUIS XVI & MARIE ANTOINETTE look at the camera\

NARRATOR
(cont’d)
Anyways…

CUT TO:
THE FRENCH COUNTRYBALL GIVING USA COUNTRYBALL MONEY FOR THE
AMERICAN REVOLUTION

NARRATOR
(cont’d)
France had given America all of
their money to help fund their
revolution. America is yet to pay
France back, causing them to go
into severe debt. Seeing as though
he didn’t know what to do, King
Louis XVI called the Estates
General for the first time in 100
years.

CUT TO:
EXT. FRENCH VILLAGE-DAY

There is a line outside a bakery. The overhead sign for the


bakery reads “la boulangerie”. Robespierre is in the line,
he stands out.
RANDOM PERSON
Eighteen Sous?! This is straight up outrageous!!!

ROBESPIERRE
You know who’s to blame for this?
The king and his wife, “Madame
Deficit!”

NARRATOR
And so, the Jacobin Club was born.
It strived through the harsh
conditions of France, yet
Robespierre had other plans in
mind.

CUT TO:
EXT. TOWN SQUARE- DAY
Robespierre is walking, just a little stroll. When he hears
the sound of metal hitting wood through flesh. He looks
over and sees that someone is being executed via
guillotine. He gets a grand, yet messed up idea.

FADE IN:
THOUGHT BUBBLE SHOWING HIS THOUGHTS
ROBESPIERRE
(V-O)
I have a grand idea! I’ll use this
contraption to kill off any
opposition. And get rid of this
corrupt monarchy once and for
all!!!!!!!!

CUT TO:

TEXT THAT SAYS "REIGN OF TERROR"

NARRATOR
And so began what is known as the
Reign of Terror. Lets just say it
went a little something like:

CUT TO:
EXT, FRENCH VILLAGE-DAY

PERSON
I feel bad for the king.

ROBESPIERRE
Gross, sympathy for the king! TO
THE GUILLOTINE!!!!

CUT TO:
EXT. PUBLIC SQUARE-DAY
The sympathy-shower gets beheaded

CUT TO:
EXT, FRENCH VILLAGE-DAY

PERSON
Pourquoi le pain est-il si cher ?

ROBESPIERRE
Vous vous plaignez des prix ? À LA
GUILLOTINE

CUT TO:
EXT. PUBLIC SQUARE-DAY

The Bread complainer gets beheaded

CUT TO:
EXT, FRENCH VILLAGE-DAY

A person is doing their thing, ROBESPIERRE stops them in


their tracks.

ROBESPIERRE
(pointing to PERSON)

You look like you’re against the


revolution!!

PERSON
But I didn’t do any–

ROBESPIERRE
À LA GUILLOTINE!!!

CUT TO:
EXT. PUBLIC SQUARE-DAY

The Innocent person gets beheaded

NARRATOR
This terror lasted for 10 months,
it was a very long 10 months if
you ask me. Anyways… Robespierre
wasn’t done. There were two people
to blame for this whole
revolution.

CUT TO:
INT. PALACE OF VERSAILLE- DAY

MARIE ANTOINETTE and LOUIS XVI are eating dinner.


ROBESPIERRE falls through the ceiling, spy-movie style. The
guillotine is short to follow.
ROBESPIERRE
Roi Louis seizième Vous êtes par
la présente condamné À LA
GUILLOTINE !!!! VOUS ET VOTRE
FEMME !

KING LOUIS XVI and MARIE ANTOINETTE are beheaded.

ROBESPIERRE (CONT'D)
Welp, now that’s taken care of.

NARRATOR
And with that, the terror is over.
Also the 1000 year monarchy.
France had become a republic.

CUT TO:
BOOK CLOSING TEXT THAT SAYS "LA FIN" IS ON THE SCREEN
