Dragon Genetics Lab-Part 1-Remote Ulv

1. The document describes a genetics lab activity where students will independently generate a dragon using random genetic traits and Mendelian principles. 2. Students will record the genotypes and phenotypes of 13 traits for their dragon by rolling dice to determine alleles from a chart. 3. They will then draw and color their dragon based on its genetic makeup. Students will mate their dragon with a partner's dragon and predict genotypes and phenotypes of offspring.

Dragon Genetics Lab Name:_______________________ partner:______________________

Objective:
You will work independently to produce a dragon from the random mixing of genetic traits. You will use Mendelian
principles to construct your dragon. You will then “mate” your dragon with another dragon and predict the probability of
specific genotypes/phenotypes for offspring of the dragon parents.

Procedure:
Part 1: Independent
5 to randomly select the 2 alleles you will use from the possibilities in the Dragon Allele Chart.
6 times
1. Roll the dice two
This will determine the genotype of your dragon.
2. Record the individual alleles from the chart, then combine into the resulting genotype from each pair of alleles in
Table #1.
3. Use the Dragon Allele Phenotype Key to fill in the corresponding phenotype for each genotype. You now have 13
traits for your dragon.
4. Draw and color your dragon correctly on the back. NEATNESS AND EFFORT COUNT!
