4. Differentiate (Sin3X)x with respect to x .

5. Find the possible values of t given that the integral of 8x³ - 27x² + 26x - 6 with respect to x under the
interval of 0≤x≤t is 0

6. Find the equation of the normal to the curve x² -2xy -2y² + x = 2 at the point (-4 ,1).

7. Find the vector perpendicular to the vectors a = 2i -j + 3k and b = i + 2j + k

8. A is a point ( 0,4) P is a variable point such that it's distance from A is twice it's distance from the line
3x = 4y

SECTION B ( 60 MARKS)

9 a) Express

2x⁴ - 3x³ + 7x² - 8x + 5.

( x-1)²( x² +2)
into partial fractions.
b) Hence find the integral of the above expression

10 a) In how many ways can the letters in the word OMWANAWOMWANAWOMUNTU be arranged in a
raw.
b) prove by induction that n

(r+1)(r +5) = n( n +7)( 2n +7)/6

r=1

Hence calculate the value of

40.
(r+1)(r+5)
r= 10
11 a) The complex number Z has a modulus 1 and argument 120⁰ . Find the fourth roots of z
b) i)If Z1 = 1 + i√3 and Z2 = √3 + i , represent Z1/Z2 on an argand diagram.
Ii) Given that z = 1 + i is a root of Z⁴ - 4Z³ + 3Z² + 2Z - 6 = 0. Find other roots .
12) Prove that
a) Sin(A+B) + 1 = (1+ CotA)(1 + tanB)
Cos( A+B) CotA + tanB
b) tan(x +60⁰)tan(x-60⁰) = tan²x - 3 hence solve the equation tan(x +60⁰)tan(x-60⁰ )=4Sec²x-3
1 - 3tan²x
13) a) Find the position vector of the point of intersection of the line x -2 = 2y + 1 = 3 - z and plane x + 2y
+z=3
b)Show that the points with position vectors OA = 4i - 8j -13k , OB = 3i - 2j and OC = 3i + j - 2k are
vertices of a triangle
c) Find the equation of the plane through tahe origin parallel to the lines r1 = 3i + 3j -k + m( i - j - 2k)
and r2 = 4i - 5j - 8k + t( 3i + j - 2k) where m and t are scalars.
14) A curve is given by y = (x +1)(x-3)
x(x-2)
i) Show that for real x , y cannot b e between 1 and 4
ii) Hence determine the turning points and distinguish them.
iii) State the asymptotes and intercepts of the curve
iv) Hence sketch the curve

15) a) Solve the equation √(x-1) + 2√( x-4) = 4

b) Show that loga b = logc b.
log c b
Hence find without using table or a calculator, the value of log 16 128
c) Solve (0.6)x+3 = (0.4)2x-1 correct to 4.s.f
16) a) Solve the differential equation x²dy/dx = x² + xy + y²
b) A police patrol in Masindi district found a dead body lying in the middle of the road at kijura
trading center at 7:00am am it's body temperature was 30⁰C . Ten minutes later, the police surgeon
measured the body temperature and found it to be 28.5⁰C , the air temperature was 20⁰C . The body
temperature loses heat at rate proportional to the difference between the body temperature T and the
sounding temperature To . If the normal body temperature is 37⁰C . Estimate the time when the man
was killed.
