Day 02

Present Simple Tense

I (in English we use “I” as singular & plural)


We Plural Verb (infinitive)
You (more than 2 people)
do, go, eat, drink

It (only one person)

In the following situations we use the Simple Present Tense


1. Regular actions
I go to school.
2. Repeated actions
I teach English.
3. Permanent actions
My father works in an office.
4. General truth
The sun rises in the East.
5. Scientific truth / mathematical truth
Water boils at 100 0C.

6. One animal represent whole class
A lion eats meat. (A lion represent whole class but The lion represents only one.)
7. Habits
She bites her finger nails.
8. Future Tense
Next school term starts on 2nd of September. (only to the time tables)
9. Newspaper headlines

Examples: -

▪ She knows four languages.


▪ She speaks four languages.
▪ My friends play cricket in the afternoon.
▪ Our dog barks at night.
▪ We go to school early.
▪ The children clean the classroom.

Negative form -ss


-ch + es

Omit the ‘Y’ and add ‘ies’. But, if there a vowel before the ‘Y’ we never omit the ‘y’.

Turn to negative

1) I know the answer.

We do not play cricket every day. (Don’t play)
3) Our dog bites.
Our dog does not bite. (Doesn’t bite)

We do not clean the classroom. (Don’t)

She does not have a brother. (Doesn’t)

Difference between present simple and present continuous
