When I was in school, I used to spend time in front of the computer.

As I grew up, I realized the


vastness of functions it could take up to add value to our lives and this made me fall in love with
the problem-solving nature of coding and computing. I directed my curiosity to further walk on
the path to computing after finishing high school and in my senior secondary years, studied CS
alongside subjects from the non-medical stream. Such experiences at school motivated me to
take up engineering as my chosen path for higher education with the core focus on diving into
the domain of Data Science owing to its high utility in the modern global economy.

I did my B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from KL (deemed to be) University,
Andhra Pradesh. The program instilled in me the fundamental knowledge of Computer
Architecture, Data Structures, Algorithms, Machine Learning, Programming, OOP, and
Statistics. Apart from this, it also introduced me to Data Science and made me aware of the
various industries - healthcare, transport, education, and business - that use the same. To gain
practical hands-on experience, I did two projects. In “Web Application Based Digital Vehicle
Monitoring System'' I enhanced the application of web technologies to monitor vehicle traffic.
Overall, the experience of project work helped me become better at research, teamwork, solving
problems, critical thinking, and working through obstacles for achieving the desired goal.

The project work paved the way for my work as a Peer Mentor at my college. As a Peer Mentor,
I was responsible to guide and assist my peers in getting the proper skill-set and practical
knowledge over the courses which we peer mentors have already completed in the previous
semesters. I took on the Analysis and Design of Algorithm module in my 5th semester and as a
part of peer mentoring, my colleagues and I contributed to the preparation of lab workbooks for
our respective courses and assisted each other in the lab components. The time I spent as a Peer
Mentor was quite enriching and taught me how to navigate through tough tasks, manage
deadlines, collaborate within a large team and be accountable for the tasks one undertakes. Apart
from being academically active, I upskilled myself in college via courses such as - Oracle Cloud
Database Migration and Integration Specialist, Python, Operating Systems and CCNAv7 in
CISCO NetAcad and Oracle Cloud Integration Developer Associate. Moreover, I did online
courses through Coursera on Machine Learning, IBM Applied AI and IBM Data Science to
better prepare myself for higher education in ML and Data Science.

During my learning journey, I have become adept at solving complex problems and putting into
action my analytical and logical reasoning skills. Additionally, I have mastered the art of looking
at things from the perspective of a data scientist. From expanding upon my technical skills to
becoming a better team player and a responsible leader, I have come a long way from where I
began. Looking ahead, I have decided to do my MS in <course> from <college name> to gain
deeper insights into the rapidly-evolving world of data. Coming to the US will place me in a
nation that is built upon the spirit of entrepreneurship and thrives on technological innovation. At
your institution, I'll learn from esteemed faculty members who are masters of their niche and
have a track record of hurting leaders of the future. With peer learning, project work and high-
end labs to support my theoretical grasp, I'll be able to link my academic insights with practical
know-how. In my undergraduate college, I wrote a research paper on one of my projects - Web
Application Based Digital Vehicle Monitoring System - which is published in IEEE, one of the
leading engineering research journals. During my MS at <college name>, I would extend my
passion for research by working on my <major project/masters thesis> on <insert topic>.

This course will enhance my circle of knowledge by taking me through modules on -


<modules>. My scientific temperament from engineering education and experience of working
on projects, writing a research paper and being a Peer Mentoring will be a plus to classroom
discussions and brainstorming sessions. As I'll gain expertise in solving tougher, more
challenging problems, in the long run, I'll establish myself as a credible Data Scientist to use my
knowledge of data for the common good of humankind. I am certain that this course will help me
move in the direction of my long-term vision and impart the necessary skills to be a valuable
member of the fast-growing tech sector. I am looking forward to joining <college name> as a
diligent student and coming out ahead as an expert professional and a proud alumnus.
