The document discusses enhancing clean energy transition in developing countries, specifically Thailand. It notes that using non-renewable energy like fossil fuels causes greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. To avoid this, countries must take action to boost renewable energy use. Thailand aims to increase clean energy use to address its growing energy demand and less flexible power system. Its THAI solution proposes tax exemptions for waste-to-energy projects, increasing hydropower and biomass as main renewable sources, improving power plant flexibility, and boosting government investment in renewables. Following this approach could help Thailand enhance clean energy and create a healthier environment over the next 20 years.

Topic: Enhancing Clean Energy Transition in Developing Countries
Name: Azzriva Aliya Yulizar – Ziva

To boost and to promote the use of clean energy is of course essential to each country
amongst other things. Using non-renewable energy; fossil fuel that includes coal, petroleum and
many more would cause this Earth to create greenhouse gasses which would eventually lead to
global warming and climate change. This in fact could damage our planet in many ways in a
matter that we cannot control later on.
In order to avoid this, every country should take action, including Thailand, even a
developing country. Thailand’s demand in terms of energy consumption is increasing to 80% due
to economic and population growth. Thailand’s power system is not really flexible, thus it is
important for the people who take care of the renewable energy system to come in terms of
giving the maximum facility in order to enhance the clean energy in Thailand. Although their
power plant system is less advanced than other countries, they are still making an attempt using
alternative solutions.
The country has been supporting the improvement and development of using clean
energy through various solutions. Thus, proposing the THAI solution. The THAI solution stands
for :
● Tax exemptions are used through projects that take advantage of waste. This
waste will then be processed and used to create energy and electricity. The tax
exemption itself would apply to all the resources needed for eight years.
Technological needs such as cost of imports on machinery or such are free of tax
while producing the alternative energy source.
● Hydropower and biomass energy use as renewable energy resources are the main
shares for renewable energy in Thailand. They have targeted to use these as their
main source of renewable energy as it is ensured to be the most ambitious option
to use. From here, the capacity in generating energy and electricity has doubled
from 2012 due to the use of hydropower and biomass energy as the main sources
with other sources as well such as wind and solar energy.
● Attempt on furnishing power plants of the renewable energy used. It is necessary
for the machines or plants that are used in producing the alternative energy to
function well in terms of flexibility, a faster and efficient process and to increase
the effort of production of the energy. Thailand's power plants are known to be
less flexible and less efficient than others, which suggests that developed
countries should help in this sort of situation. Constraints could happen due to the
plants not being flexible enough when it could actually create great productivity
instead.
● Increasing investment in renewables by the government. When an increase in
investment by the government is given for renewable energy, it could help to
increase the speed of enhancing renewable energy in Thailand. It also gives a
good image to the government that they are willing to invest and help in terms of
enhancing clean energy. By giving a good image, it will help Thailand’s
conditions as well despite the extreme weather conditions there.
Given that the idea of THAI is followed entirely, Thailand would succeed in enhancing
clean energy, in making the country or all in all even the world a better place. THAI people
themselves would be grateful for all the support from the government system and from all of the
help they could get from developed countries in enhancing clean energy in their country.
Non-renewable energy itself would eventually not be needed anymore in the future. Thailand’s
government would be willing to develop clean energy for the next 20 years to increase the
consumption of clean energy by 30% . And finally, resulting in a healthier environment in the
end.
