The Ten Commandments outline ten basic principles for living a moral life according to God's law. The first commandment establishes that God alone should be worshipped and takes priority over all other things. Putting other gods or priorities before God results in misdirection from life's true purpose and frustration. Obeying the first commandment lays the foundation for obeying the other nine commandments and invites people to practice faith, hope and love in their relationship with God. Overall, the Ten Commandments reflect God's love and call people to live in right relationship with God, themselves, others and the world through developing good habits and priorities.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
1. I am the LORD your God, thou shalt have no
other gods before me.
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your
God in vain.
3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.
4. Honour your father and your mother.
5. You shall not kill.
6. You shall not commit adultery.
7. You shall not steal.
8. You shall not bear false witness against your
neighbour.
9. You shall not covet your neighbour's wife.
10. You shall not covet your neighbour's goods.
Definition of the first commandment:
“I am the LORD your God, thou shalt have no
other gods before me. “
This means we must put God first in our lives.
He is more important than anyone or anything else.
God loves us deeply, and so we should love
Him with all our hearts.
This First Commandment sets the tone for the
first four commandments, which can be summarized as, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Disadvantage of first commandment
“I am the LORD your God, thou shalt have no
other gods before me. “
He will not allow the worship and honour due
to Him to be given to others because it would only result in misdirection of life's purpose, frustration, emotional and physical pain, and ultimately death to those who worship any but Him.
Anything that we put as higher priority than
the true God causes us to sin and possible to violate the rest of the commandments.
No one can serve two masters; for either he
will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Advantage of the first commandment
“I am the LORD your God, thou shalt have no
other gods before me. “
First Commandment is the foundation for the
other nine.
Guarantees us the right to give God first place
in our lives.
invite us to the practice of the Theological
virtues of faith, hope, and love.
reminder to focus on the awesome power and
majesty of our Creator God.
They represent the underlying spiritual order,
the invariable phenomena of God's law - His governing and controlling will - to be understood, obeyed, and practiced for harmony on earth.
Reaction to all commandments
The Ten Commandments are a mirror
reflecting the glory of God. They are an exposition of His love. As redeemed people who bear His name in the world, God calls us to live lives of love that reflect who He is. And what that looks like is spelled out in the Ten Commandments.
Remain important because they teach us
habits that we need to develop to live life in right relationship with God, self, others, and things: creating priorities, seeking intimacy, spending time, giving respect, recognizing dignity, maintaining integrity, living gratitude, upholding honesty, promising fidelity, and bestowing generosity. When our relationships are healthy and ordered appropriately, our lives are in balance. We know a joy that goes beyond momentary, fleeting pleasure. We are surrounded by love.
