This the period from a still dependent, sometimes clingy toddler into a socially competent and
cognitively prepared child who is ready to start school

2. At this age, they have the highest imagination. They want to explore and ask about things
around them even more. They emerge to be as creative and imaginative.
3. Preschoolers grow into early childhood, their world will begin to open up. They will become
more independent and begin to focus more on adults and children outside their family. Natuto

In preschool, they start to look more like a kid. They start to lose the fat chubby face and their
body start to elongate. In preschool, they are more talkative ,very active and sociable. What we
want to remember in their physical change is their weight and height:

it’s a little bit less if you remember from our toddler discussion. Always remember that in
preschool, Growth is slowing down compared to toddler and infant. During checkups, we need
to plot their height and weight on their growth chart to make sure that they are within the
percentiles that are appropriate for their age.

remember they are increasing their ability to have coordination so they are starting to be able
to do Gross motor skills that require large muscle groups in the body.
fine motor skills use smaller muscle in the body like grasping.
So, they’re gaining even more independence with this increase in coordination and they’re
growing fine and gross motor skills.

language development is of course increasing rapidly at this age. It play a critical part in both
cognitive and emotional development. Language delays may be the 1st indication of an
intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, or child neglect or maltreatment.
So, their developing language skills make our choice of words very important . We can use
simple, non threatening terms or words when talking to them.

Initiative:
Preschoolers begin to develop a sense of purpose and start to show more independence and
initiative in their actions and decisions.
For example, kapag yung bata allowed to try on new clothes or has sense of initiatitive in
helping house hold chore
Guilt:
1. If children are overly criticized, restricted, or made to feel that their initiatives are
wrong
That’s why its very importat that During this stage, children are encouraged to explore their
environment, try new activities, and new challenges because when children's initiatives are
consistently met with harsh criticism or punishment, they may develop an overly strict, feelings
of guilt and self-doubt.

Magical thinking:
For example, ung concept ng tooth fairy na kapag tinago nila ung tooth nila magkakapera sila or
ung concept of santa clause.
Egocentrism in preschooler refers to the child's inability to see a situation from another person's
point of view. The egocentric child assumes that other people see, hear, and feel exactly the
same as they do. For Example, nagwaya sila nung kalaro niya and then nagkasakit ung kalaro
niya so, the child will believe na siya ung nagcause kung bakit nagkasakit ung kalaro niya. They
believe that they caused it and they always relate it to themselves
