Undisputed – SCRIPT 21.11.23

BLACK SCREEN- SOUND OF BELL RING EMERGES FROM DARKNESS.

Cut from black to-

INT.LOCKER-ROOM

Sitting with his head in his hands is ANTHONY RAINN, a

19-year-old boxer with a towel around his neck. He is
wearing a bloody pair of white boxing gloves. Standing
behind him is his MANAGER- an early 20’s man wearing a
black polo shirt.

INTER-CUT WITH-

EXT.VENUE EXIT. NIGHT-TIME

Exiting a venue surrounded by security is YOHAN DRAXLER

an early 20’s boxer wearing an all-black gym outfit
paired with black-tinted sunglasses. In front of Draxler
stands a crowd of paparazzi with flashing cameras on the
fighter. Draxler’s face is clearly bruised with his
sunglasses failing to cover the damage to his face.

INT. PRESS CONFERENCE TABLE.

We see an empty table featuring a microphone and

endorsements including monster energy cans. Behind the
table is various advertisement boards. Entering from
the side is Draxler. Lights flash on the fighter as he
approaches his seat. Noise erupts from behind from
numerous reporters shouting at the fighter.

REPORTER 1
Admit you lost that fight!

REPORTER 2
You should be ashamed.

REPORTER 3
Will there be a re-match?

The camera remains on Draxler as he shows no reaction to

the reporters. He then takes of his sunglasses revealing
in a heavily bruised face. This creates an even louder
collective noise from reporters. Draxler slowly raises
his hands resulting in a quiet audience.

DRAXLER
(pointing to the crowd)
First question you in the green
shirt.

From behind the camera we hear a reporter stand to ask a

question.

REPORTER 2
Mr Draxler how do you feel the
fight went?

DRAXLER scratches his head.

CUT TO-

INT. BOXING RING

We see a close up on Draxler wearing black head-gear and

a gumshield- his face is bleeding heavily. The lighting
is solely on the fighter making the background not
visible. From behind the camera emerges a right-handed
white boxing glove in a right hook -connecting directly
to Draxler’s head gear. On impact we cut back to-

INT. PRESS CONFERENCE TABLE

Draxler remains scratching his head.

DRAXLER
I feel as though uhh-
I proved once again why
I am uhh. The best amateur
boxer in the world (gulps).

The camera cuts to a wide angle revealing the large

crowd of reporters simultaneously raising their arms.
Draxler sits with a false smile.

We cut to-

INT. INTERVIEW SET

We see a high wide angle of a film set. Behind the

cameras of the set are two cameraman simultaneously
operating cameras. Two producers stand next to them. In
front of the cameras are Draxler sitting opposite an
INTERVIEWER. Both characters have a make-up artist
standing to the side of them. A producer behind the
cameras indicates to the Interviewer to begin. Both
make-up artists exit the set.

TEXT APPEARS ON SCREEN: 5 WEEKS EARLIER.

The camera pushes, from a high angle to eye-level, into
one of the operating cameras on the set. We transition
into the fictional camera positioned on Draxler. His
face here is un-bruised.

The scene inter-cuts between two cameras- both medium

shots. One on Draxler, the other on the Interviewer.

INTERVIEWER
Ladies and gentlemen, I am joined today
by Yohan Draxler,
The quote unquote best pound for pound
amateur boxer in the world. Yohan Draxler,
welcome to the show.

DRAXLER
Thank you for having me.

INTERVIEWER
In 5 weeks’ time you will have your,
highly anticipated, professional
boxing debut fight against none other
than Dante Batista. How are you feeling
about the fight?

DRAXLER
Well you know, I want to become the best
in the world. And where better to prove
yourself against a fighter like
Batista.

INTERVIEWER
It’s clear that you have a great respect
for your upcoming opponent.

DRAXLER
Respect? The guy’s a ****.

The fighter’s words are censored.

DRAXLER
(cont’d)

He may be a good fighter but what has

he done to earn my respect.

We transition away from the camera this time with the

shot being featured on a phone screen. The camera pulls
away from the phone screen revealing the new
surroundings.

INT. GYM. DAY

We see a simple busy gym. Standing in the foreground of

the frame is a hooded figure, wearing white boxing
gloves hitting training pads held by a TRAINER- a young
man dressed in gym clothes.
In the background of the shot remains the interview of
Draxler displayed on an unseen persons phone.

We cut to multiple close ups on the white boxing gloves.

At the end of the sequence, the man removes his hood
revealing the face of previously seen Anthony Rainn.
Rainn looks at the tv screen and sees Draxler. He then
turns to his trainer.

RAINN
Who do you have in that fight?
Draxler or Batista?

TRAINER
I’d go with Batista probably.

RAINN
Batista? Maybe five years ago.
Don’t get how people are hyping
it up Draxler’s obviously gonna’
win.

TRAINER
I wouldn’t be too sure Tony,
the kid looks stupid to me.

RAINN
Doesn’t matter if he’s smart or not.
The guys twenty-five and o.

TRAINER
We’re talking about amateur fights
though, plus only fourteen knockouts.
I know I’d rather have seven in seven.

RAINN
Yeah but what’s seven wins to twenty
five?

TRAINER
All I’m saying is I don’t see a killer
instinct in him. He may sound the part
but I don’t see it. I honestly think
that you’d have him

Rainn shrugs his shoulders and begins to hit the

practice pads again.

RAINN
(whilst punching)
Well, let’s go pro first and then I
might even get the chance.

The camera pulls away from the fighter and the trainer,
from behind the camera walks in Rainn’s manager. Dressed
in a black polo shirt and standing with his hands on his

MANAGER
Oi, Tony there’s someone here to see you.

Rainn leaves the gym with his manager.

INT. HALLWAY

Rainn walks along a hallway alongside his manager whilst

wiping his head with a towel. We track the two as they
approach an office.

MANAGER
Heads up by the way, this guy’s pretty
fast with his words.

RAINN
Who is he?

MANAGER
Some big-time agent or something.

RAINN
Who does he represent?

His manager walks up to an office, as he walks through the

door he quickly turns to Rainn.

MANAGER
Some guy called Yohan Draxler.

The fighter pauses for a second before he walks in.

INT. MANAGERS OFFICE

Rainn walks into his managers office, a modest office
featuring a desk, photos of boxing and framed belts.
Sitting with his back to the door is a suited man with a
briefcase to his side. The manager walks over to his desk
and turns to the seated man.

MANAGER
Anthony Rainn, meet-

The manager is interrupted by the seated man.

TERRY
Terry James!

The suited man stands revealing himself, TERRY JAMES- a

young sports agent holding a phone in his left hand and
offering a handshake with his right. He is sporting an
over-the-top smile. Rainn shakes his hand and sits parallel
to the agent.

RAINN
Nice to meet you Mr James.

TERRY
Please, call me Terry.

MANAGER
Terry here represents several professional
fighters.

RAINN
Look I appreciate it Terry but I’ve been-

As he speaks Terry looks to the manager who sits up in his

chair.

MANAGER
That’s, not why he’s here today.

TERRY
No no, as good of a fighter you are
Anthony I’m not here to sign you,
not today at least.

Terry begins to laugh, Rainn and his manager don’t.

TERRY
(cont’d)
Instead I’m here to give you the offer
of a lifetime. You see I represent the
greatest amateur middleweight in the
world- Yohan Draxler.

RAINN
So, you intend to offer me a fight against
a pro.

Rainn turns to his manager.

RAINN
(cont’d)
Don’t you think it’s a bit soon, plus
Draxler hasn’t even fought Batista yet.

His manager turns his head to Terry.

MANAGER
(to TERRY)
Tell him.

TERRY
Dante Batista is injured. He,
won’t be fighting my client just yet.

RAINN
So, you want your client to have his
pro debut against an amateur who’s had
seven fights.

TERRY
Not exactly, by contract Yohan has to
fight another fight this year. However
the ink is dry on his deal with Batista.
So, we figured one more amateur fight
couldn’t hurt-

As Terry continues to speak, the camera remains focused on

Rainn with the sound of his surroundings fading out. Rainn
maintains a look of confusion. As the scene remains silent,
Terry opens his briefcase on the table and offers Rainn a
pen. Rainn stares at the pen.

INT. HALLWAY

Rainn sits against a wall alone in the hallway. His trainer

walks up to him.

TRAINER
What was that about then?

RAINN
New training programme, we’ve got
A fight in five weeks.

TRAINER
Who’s it against?

CUT TO BLACK.

INTER-CUT Between black screen and fight footage. Close

up shots of the fighters being hit. Sequence ends with the
sound of a ringing bell.

INT. BOXING RING.

We see Draxler sitting, heavily beaten, in his corner of

the ring with trainers by his side cleaning his bleeding
eye with water and a cloth.

DRAXLER
He’s fast.

We cut to the opposite corner of the ring where Rainn is

sitting with his trainer and manager by his side. Rainn
looks far less damaged than his opponent.

RAINN
He’s slower than I thought.

TRAINER
This fight is yours.

Rainn looks directly at Draxler.

INT. BOXING VENUE- JUDGES TABLE

We see 3 judges sitting at a table dressed in suits.

INT. BOXING RING.

We cut back onto Rainn and his trainers.

TRAINER
Don’t rely on the scores, get that
knockout quick.

The bell rings and the two fighters stand ready for the
next round.

Draxler comes straight in with an attempted right-hook.

Rainn easily dodges the bunch- side-stepping and landing a
right-handed upper-cut to his opponent. Draxler goes down.
We see the reaction of Rainn’s trainer- jumping up in
celebration.

INT. JUDGES TABLE

We then see the non-existent reactions of the judges. None

of the three budges.

INT. BOXING RING

Rainn stands over his opponent in celebration. The REFEREE

stands to the side of the two and begins his count.

REFEREE
One… two… three…

The referee’s count is incredibly slow. We see reactions

from the crowd, the reactions of the trainers and the
reaction of Rainn himself. All reactions are in anger.
People from the crowd begin to boo.

REFEREE
Four… five… six… seven…

He pauses an extra amount between seven and eight. Draxler

goes to his knees and the crowd continue to boo.

REFEREE
Eight, nine…

Draxler stands and the referee gives him the ok to continue.

The two fighters come together again, Rainn in full attack-
throwing punch after punch. Draxler gets put on the ropes,
the referee pulls the two apart. Rainn raises his arms in
confusion and turns to his corner. His trainer shrugs his
shoulders and shakes his head.

We see a wide angle of the ring, Rainn stands waiting for

his opponent and turns once again to his corner. His trainer
puts both his hands up and shows fifteen fingers indicating
the time remaining. The referee calls the fighters in,
Rainn walks up prepared for a large hook. When he approaches
Draxler, Draxler throws a punch and narrowly misses Rainn.
Draxler follows through on the punch- catching Rainn with
his elbow. Rainn goes down.

CUT TO BLACK.

From the black screen we can still hear the crowd and the
referee.
REFEREE
One, two, three, four…

The referee’s count speed is far faster than his count for
Draxler.

REFEREE
Five, six, seven, eight, nine…

CUT FROM BLACK TO-

INT. BOXING RING

On the ninth count, Rainn stands and makes the count. The
referee walks up to the fighter and asks him to raise his
gloves and asks him if he can continue to fight.

REFEREE
Can you continue son?

Before Rainn can even respond, the referee waves his hands
and calls the fight. We see Draxler walk around the ring
in celebration, whilst Rainn protests to the referee. Rainn
watches on as Draxler is surrounded by the press in victory.
The camera remains on Rainn’s face.

CUT TO BLACK.

INT.LOCKER-ROOM

We see the same shot that was featured in the opening. The
camera stays on Rainn for longer this time, he removes his
hands from his head and reveals his bruised and bleeding
face. There is a large wound on the side of his face, where
Draxler caught him with his elbow. The manager walks up to
him and passes him a bag of ice. Rainn places the bag on
his cut. The manager paces around the room.

MANAGER
How can he not see that elbow?
Everyone in the building could
See it from a mile away.

RAINN
He saw it, he just didn’t give a shit.

The manager continues to pace around the room, kicking

things around. Rainn just sits to himself in solace.

We hear a knock at the door. The manager turns to open the

door. Rainn doesn’t move a muscle. The manager opens the
door, behind it are Terry James and THE COMMISIONER- an
elderly man around his late fifties. He is dressed in an
all-black suit. Behind him are two security guards, one of
them holding a briefcase.

MANAGER
Can I help you?

The commissioner doesn’t say a word, the four walk into the
locker-room. The commissioner stands over Rainn.

COMMISIONER
Hell of a fight son, you showed
great spirit.

TERRY
Unfortunately you showed it against
the best in the world.

Rainn just looks at Terry with an intense stare.

MANAGER
Well the best in the world only
won from an elbow.

The manager walks up to Terry and gets into his face.

MANAGER
(CONT’D)
If you would have hired a ref who
knew how to do his job then maybe
people would watch this shit.

TERRY
What are you trying to say?

MANAGER
I’m trying to say that anyone with
a working set of eyes could see you
rigged this fight.

The manager spits on the floor. Terry’s false smile fades

into a glare at the manager.

COMMISIONER
Gentlemen, please escort Mr (blank)
Out of the room.

The two security guards grab hold of the manager and walk
him out of the room. The manager complies.
Rainn takes his ice bag of off his head and looks up at the
commissioner.

RAINN
First you rob me of my fight and now
you take my manager. Starting to wonder
why you even wanted this fight to happen.

COMMISIONER
You’re a smart kid Anthony, I think we
both know why this fight happened the
way it did.

Rainn doesn’t say a word but shows a look of understanding.

COMMISIONER
(cont’d)
Now as we can both use our heads, I think
that we can come to some sort of agreement
about this situation. A form of compensation
if you would.

Rainn thinks for a second. He takes his ice bag and launches
it into the wall. He stands up and faces the commissioner.

RAINN
Fuck you.

Terry James walks up to the side of them. Rainn and the

commissioner continue to face each other.

TERRY
Look Tony, we don’t want a dispute here.
Just take a seat and we can discuss.

Rainn turns to look at Terry, he then looks around the

room. We see the two security guards re-enter the room,
cleaning blood of their hands. The camera cuts back to
Rainn- stunned in thought.

COMMISONER
Take a seat, Tony.

We see a wide angle of the whole room, Rainn surrounded by

the commissioner, Terry and now the two security guards.

CUT TO BLACK.

The end.
