INT.LOCKER-ROOM
INTER-CUT WITH-
REPORTER 1
Admit you lost that fight!
REPORTER 2
You should be ashamed.
REPORTER 3
Will there be a re-match?
DRAXLER
(pointing to the crowd)
First question you in the green
shirt.
REPORTER 2
Mr Draxler how do you feel the
fight went?
CUT TO-
DRAXLER
I feel as though uhh-
I proved once again why
I am uhh. The best amateur
boxer in the world (gulps).
We cut to-
INTERVIEWER
Ladies and gentlemen, I am joined today
by Yohan Draxler,
The quote unquote best pound for pound
amateur boxer in the world. Yohan Draxler,
welcome to the show.
DRAXLER
Thank you for having me.
INTERVIEWER
In 5 weeks’ time you will have your,
highly anticipated, professional
boxing debut fight against none other
than Dante Batista. How are you feeling
about the fight?
DRAXLER
Well you know, I want to become the best
in the world. And where better to prove
yourself against a fighter like
Batista.
INTERVIEWER
It’s clear that you have a great respect
for your upcoming opponent.
DRAXLER
Respect? The guy’s a ****.
DRAXLER
(cont’d)
RAINN
Who do you have in that fight?
Draxler or Batista?
TRAINER
I’d go with Batista probably.
RAINN
Batista? Maybe five years ago.
Don’t get how people are hyping
it up Draxler’s obviously gonna’
win.
TRAINER
I wouldn’t be too sure Tony,
the kid looks stupid to me.
RAINN
Doesn’t matter if he’s smart or not.
The guys twenty-five and o.
TRAINER
We’re talking about amateur fights
though, plus only fourteen knockouts.
I know I’d rather have seven in seven.
RAINN
Yeah but what’s seven wins to twenty
five?
TRAINER
All I’m saying is I don’t see a killer
instinct in him. He may sound the part
but I don’t see it. I honestly think
that you’d have him
RAINN
(whilst punching)
Well, let’s go pro first and then I
might even get the chance.
The camera pulls away from the fighter and the trainer,
from behind the camera walks in Rainn’s manager. Dressed
in a black polo shirt and standing with his hands on his
MANAGER
Oi, Tony there’s someone here to see you.
INT. HALLWAY
MANAGER
Heads up by the way, this guy’s pretty
fast with his words.
RAINN
Who is he?
MANAGER
Some big-time agent or something.
RAINN
Who does he represent?
MANAGER
Some guy called Yohan Draxler.
MANAGER
Anthony Rainn, meet-
TERRY
Terry James!
RAINN
Nice to meet you Mr James.
TERRY
Please, call me Terry.
MANAGER
Terry here represents several professional
fighters.
RAINN
Look I appreciate it Terry but I’ve been-
MANAGER
That’s, not why he’s here today.
TERRY
No no, as good of a fighter you are
Anthony I’m not here to sign you,
not today at least.
TERRY
(cont’d)
Instead I’m here to give you the offer
of a lifetime. You see I represent the
greatest amateur middleweight in the
world- Yohan Draxler.
RAINN
So, you intend to offer me a fight against
a pro.
RAINN
(cont’d)
Don’t you think it’s a bit soon, plus
Draxler hasn’t even fought Batista yet.
MANAGER
(to TERRY)
Tell him.
TERRY
Dante Batista is injured. He,
won’t be fighting my client just yet.
RAINN
So, you want your client to have his
pro debut against an amateur who’s had
seven fights.
TERRY
Not exactly, by contract Yohan has to
fight another fight this year. However
the ink is dry on his deal with Batista.
So, we figured one more amateur fight
couldn’t hurt-
INT. HALLWAY
TRAINER
What was that about then?
RAINN
New training programme, we’ve got
A fight in five weeks.
TRAINER
Who’s it against?
CUT TO BLACK.
DRAXLER
He’s fast.
RAINN
He’s slower than I thought.
TRAINER
This fight is yours.
TRAINER
Don’t rely on the scores, get that
knockout quick.
The bell rings and the two fighters stand ready for the
next round.
REFEREE
One… two… three…
REFEREE
Four… five… six… seven…
REFEREE
Eight, nine…
CUT TO BLACK.
From the black screen we can still hear the crowd and the
referee.
REFEREE
One, two, three, four…
The referee’s count speed is far faster than his count for
Draxler.
REFEREE
Five, six, seven, eight, nine…
On the ninth count, Rainn stands and makes the count. The
referee walks up to the fighter and asks him to raise his
gloves and asks him if he can continue to fight.
REFEREE
Can you continue son?
Before Rainn can even respond, the referee waves his hands
and calls the fight. We see Draxler walk around the ring
in celebration, whilst Rainn protests to the referee. Rainn
watches on as Draxler is surrounded by the press in victory.
The camera remains on Rainn’s face.
CUT TO BLACK.
INT.LOCKER-ROOM
We see the same shot that was featured in the opening. The
camera stays on Rainn for longer this time, he removes his
hands from his head and reveals his bruised and bleeding
face. There is a large wound on the side of his face, where
Draxler caught him with his elbow. The manager walks up to
him and passes him a bag of ice. Rainn places the bag on
his cut. The manager paces around the room.
MANAGER
How can he not see that elbow?
Everyone in the building could
See it from a mile away.
RAINN
He saw it, he just didn’t give a shit.
MANAGER
Can I help you?
The commissioner doesn’t say a word, the four walk into the
locker-room. The commissioner stands over Rainn.
COMMISIONER
Hell of a fight son, you showed
great spirit.
TERRY
Unfortunately you showed it against
the best in the world.
MANAGER
Well the best in the world only
won from an elbow.
MANAGER
(CONT’D)
If you would have hired a ref who
knew how to do his job then maybe
people would watch this shit.
TERRY
What are you trying to say?
MANAGER
I’m trying to say that anyone with
a working set of eyes could see you
rigged this fight.
COMMISIONER
Gentlemen, please escort Mr (blank)
Out of the room.
The two security guards grab hold of the manager and walk
him out of the room. The manager complies.
Rainn takes his ice bag of off his head and looks up at the
commissioner.
RAINN
First you rob me of my fight and now
you take my manager. Starting to wonder
why you even wanted this fight to happen.
COMMISIONER
You’re a smart kid Anthony, I think we
both know why this fight happened the
way it did.
COMMISIONER
(cont’d)
Now as we can both use our heads, I think
that we can come to some sort of agreement
about this situation. A form of compensation
if you would.
Rainn thinks for a second. He takes his ice bag and launches
it into the wall. He stands up and faces the commissioner.
RAINN
Fuck you.
TERRY
Look Tony, we don’t want a dispute here.
Just take a seat and we can discuss.
COMMISONER
Take a seat, Tony.
CUT TO BLACK.
The end.
