All Countries
1. Successful completion of the full first year of a Bachelor degree at a recognised University in Cannada, New
Zealand, United Kingdom or the United States of America.
2. Successful completion of a Bachelor degree course from a recognised University which is assessed as
comparable to the educational level of an Australian Bachelor degree in which English is listed as the sole language
of instruction in the International Handbook of Universities or the World Higher Education Database.
Secondary Education
1. General Certificate of Secondary Education Ordinary level English, English Literature, English Language,
First Language English, English General Paper or English as Second Language with a Grade of C or better from a
United Kingdom examination authority (CIE, OCR, Edexcel, AQA, WJEC or CCEA).
2. General Certificate of Education Advanced Subsidiary level English, English Literature, English Language,
First Language English, English General Paper or English as Second Language with a Grade of C or better from a
United Kingdom examination authority (CIE, OCR, Edexcel, AQA, WJEC or CCEA).
3. General Certificate of Education Advanced level English, English Literature, English Language, First
Language English, English General Paper or English as Second Language with a Grade of E or better from a United
Kingdom examination authority (CIE, OCR, Edexcel, AQA, WJEC or CCEA).
4. General Certificate of Education, Advanced Ordinary level Additional English offered by the Joint
Matriculation Board (JMB) with a Grade of C or better.
6. International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma - a grade of 4 or above in English A: Literature (English A1) or
English A: Language and Literature (English A2) at Standard Level or Higher Level, or English B at Higher Level.

All States
English Language Courses
The programs and institutions listed below are currently under review, unless otherwise stated, the recorded result
will satisfy the minimum Undergraduate and Postgraduate English requirements only, some courses may require a
higher level. Not all courses accept English Language programs and may require the results from a recognised
English Language test for entry. Contact the University Admission Centre for further information.
1. Navitas English, Academic English Level 3 with a minimum grade of 65% (Formerly Australian College of
English and Australian Centre for Languages).
2. Australian Pacific College, English for Academic Purposes - Advanced (EAP – A) with a minimum grade of B+.
3. International House Sydney, English for Academic Purposes 2 with a minimum grade 85% (34/40).
5 Sydney English Language Centre (SELC), English for Academic Purposes Advanced with a minimum grade
of 75.
6. Kaplan International College (Australia), completion of EAP 2 with a minimum grade 75 (Formerly Aspect
College).
7. Uniworld English College (Sydney), English for Tertiary Entrance (EAP) course with an overall grade of B for
Undergraduate courses (Valid until December 2013 only).
8. Uniworld English College (Sydney), English for Tertiary Entrance (EAP) course with an overall grade of A for
Postgraduate courses (Valid until December 2013 only).
9. Phoenix Academy, Certificate IV in English for Academic Purposes (91459NSW) with a minimum grade of
COM (65%).
1. Combined Universities Language Test (CULT) with an overall grade of 70 with a minimum of 17 in each
section.
3. Curtin University Test of English (CUTE) with a minimum Band of B. CUTE is no longer available for
onshore applicants from June 2012.

Practitioner, Midwife, Registered or Enrolled Nurse, Optometrist, Osteopath, Pharmacist, Physiotherapist, Podiatrist
or Psychologist.
1. Completion of a Diploma, Associate Diploma or Advanced Diploma accredited under the Australian
Qualifications Framework (AQF) at a registered training organisation and listed on the www.aqf.edu.au or the
www.training.gov.au websites

Tertiary Education
1. Successful completion of the full first semester (0.5 of an Equivalent Fulltime Student Load; EFTSL) of a
tertiary degree at a recognised Australian University; or from a Non Self Accrediting Higher Education Institution
approved under the Australian Qualifications Framework to provide Undergraduate degrees.
2. Successful completion of an Australian University English Language Bridging program of one semester
(Approximately 12 weeks) full-time in duration or more, which satisfies the English entry requirements to Degree
level courses at the host universities. This includes Curtin University’s English Language Bridging/Enabling
(ELB/ELE) course.
3. Completion of the Curtin University units; Intercultural Communication 141 and 142 with a minimum score of
65% or completion of Communication & Cultural Studies: Cultures, Identities, Texts 111 or 112, Communication
Skills (Academic Purposes) 111 or Ed 218 Effective Communication with a minimum score of 50%
Secondary Education
ACT
1. English is not required from the ACT as long as the ACT Year 12 Certificate is being used as the basis of
Admission. Otherwise a scaled mark of 125 or higher in T Level English, World Literature or English as a Second
Language will satisfy Curtin's English requirements.
1. A scaled mark of 50 (band 2) or higher in 2 Unit English (Standard or Advanced), English Extension or
English as a Second Language will satisfy Curtin's English requirements.
Queensland
1. A grade of Sound Achievement (4) or better (High or Very High Achievement) in a Queensland Studies
Authority approved subject of English, English Extension (Literature) or English for ESL Learners will satisfy Curtin's
English requirements.
Tasmania
1. English is not required from Tasmania as long as the Tasmanian Certificate of Education is being used as
the basis of Admission. Otherwise an overall result of Satisfactory Achievement or better (Commendable, High or
Excellent Achievment) in English Studies, English Communications, English Writing or English as a Second
Language will satisfy Curtin's English requirements.
Victoria
1. A scaled mark of 25 (50%) or higher in English, English Language, Literature or English as a Second
Language will satisfy Curtin's English requirements.
Western Australia
Canada
1. A grade of 60% or better in year 12 English from a Canadian province Secondary Education Diploma.
2. Successful completion of the full first year of a Bachelor degree at a recognised Canadian University.
Denmark
1. A grade of 7 or better in the Bevis for Studentereksamen or Bevis for Højere Forberedelseseksamen.
Germany
1. A grade of 4 or better in the Abitur/Zeugnis der Allegmeinen Hochschulreife.
2. Completion of Certificate of Language Proficiency for Germany with an average grade of (B) or above in the
university administered DAAD English test (DAAD Sprachzeugnis fue deutsche Bewerber) and an average English
grade of three (3.0) in the final 2 years of high school (Abitur/Zeugnis der Allegmeinen Hochschulreife or
Reifezeugnis), which equals at least eight credits.
Hong Kong
2. Prior to 2007 - A grade of C or better in English Language (Syllabus B) in the Hong Kong Certificate of
Education Examination (HKCEE).
3. From 2007 – Completion of the English Language subject in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education
Examinations (HKCEE) with a grade of 3 or above (3, 4, 5 or 5*).
4. From 2012 – A grade of 3 or above (3, 4, 5, 5* or 5**) in the core subject English Language in the Hong
Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE).
5. Satisfactory completion of English for Senior Study (ENG200) at Centre for Continuing & Community
Education, Open University of Hong Kong (for offshore students only)
6. Completion of two or more English units with a Grade Point Average of 3.0 in each from a two or three year
Sub Degree Program from one of the following Community Colleges:
Malaysia
1. A grade of C6 or better in Bahasa Inggeris (1119) from the Malaysian Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
Netherlands
1. A pass in the English component of the Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs (VWO).
New Zealand
1. A minimum of 8 achieved credits at Level 2 or 3 in English, with at least 4 achieved credits in Reading and 4
achieved credits in Writing in the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA).
2. Successful completion of the full first year of a Bachelor degree at a recognised New Zealand University.
Norway
1. A grade of four in English from the Vitnemål fra den Videregående Skole (Norwegian Certificate of Upper
Secondary Education).
Singapore
1 A grade of C6 or better in the Singapore General Certificate of Education "O" level English. Completion of
the Integrated Program is accepted in lieu of GCE 'O' Level examinations from Singapore, including a grade of C or
better in English.
Sweden
1. A grade of C (Val Godkand or Pass with Distinction) or above in the Slutbetyg från Gymnasieskola (Swedish
Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate).
1. Successful completion of the full first year of a Bachelor degree at a recognised British University.
2. A grade of 3 or higher in English Language and Composition or English Literature and Composition in the
US College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examinations.
Unlike TEE English, or TEE English Literature, the 'Pass' mark for ESL is not 50%. Prior to 2008,
each year the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (formerly known as Curriculum
Council) determines what the pass mark is. These are listed below.
