FLOW EFFICIENCY

FE ( Flow Efficiency )
Skin factor •
Skin can be zero ( no effect) , positive or negative •
Positive skin : a restriction of flow from the reservoir to the well •
A distortion of the flow lines from the perfectly normal to the well direction •
that may results due to :
1- Partial completion ( perforation height less than formation thickness.
2-Number of perforation.
3- phase change.
4-high velocity flow( turbulence).
5- damage to the natural reservoir permeability.
FE ( Flow Efficiency )
Negative skin: flow enhancement: may result from: •
1- matrix stimulation ( near well bore permeability exceeds the •
natural value).
2- hydraulic fracturing. •
3- hydraulic acidizing. •

Qo= flow rate bbl/day

ΔPs= pressure drop due to skin Psi
K= permeability md
h= formation thickness ft
K skin= permeability of the damage zone
Hawkins formula
FE ( Flow Efficiency )
FE= 1 no damage
FE> 1 stimulation
FE< 1 damage
Example: give n data for a well with a radius of 0.328 ft, what is
the skin impairment if the permeability impairment results in
k/ks of 6 and the damage extend one ft beyond the wellbore
radius
Solution:
Using the Hawkins formula
FE ( Flow Efficiency )
Skin components •
S= Sd +Sc +Sɸ +Sp + S pseudo •
S = total skin. •
Sd= skin due to damage. •
Sc= skin due to partial completion. •
Sɸ= skin due to deviation. •
Sp= skin due to perforation. •
S pseudo skin due to rate dependent effect and phase dependent effect. •
Example : calculation of skin factor
Given data for a well with a radius of 0.328 ft, what is the skin damage if the
permeability damage result in k/ks of 5 and the damage extends 1.5 ft
beyond the wellbore radius.
Solution:
Using Hawkins Formula to find the value of skin factor
𝑘 𝑟𝑠 1.5
𝑆= − 1 𝑙𝑛 = 5 − 1 𝑙𝑛 = 6.080827 skin factor is (+ve)
𝑘𝑠 𝑟𝑤 0.328
mean the zone around the wellbore was damaged.
Example :
Given data A=40 acre spacing, J=0.92 stb/day/psi, Pr=2250 Psi, qo= 400 stb/day
